Not crazy about the colorsI ordered a T-shirt from Mustang lockerroom last year. I ordered the identical style T-shirt from Mustang lockerroom this year, too, and I have to say I'm not crazy about the change to "brighter" red and blue.
The red lettering on the new shirt is just one shade darker than pink. Seriously. Maybe it only looks that way because the old shirt is that dark, "Harvard" red, but even the wife remarked -unsolicitied - that the red in the 2007 shirt looks almost pink. I think SMU needs to re-evaluate and switch to a slightly darker PMS number on the official shade of red. And maybe take another look at how light the new "royal" blue is. I'm OK with going back to the colors we wore in the 1980s, I just didn't think by the 1980s, they meant a Miami Vice powder blue-and-pink look.
The problem with pms colors is that they refer to ink colors and are not related to the dyes used in clothing. Therefore you will get a multitude of shades of Royal Blue from light to dark. With Navy Blue you don't have quite as much trouble...just make it very dark and you are close. I don't care for today's "official" red and blue colors anyway. They ignor the intent of Dr. Hyer's choice of Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue for the school colors as being symbolic of the kind of academics this school was going to emulate. Somewhere along the way some marketing type decided that brighter colors were required and thus we have the latest "official" colors. They look like they came straight off the primary color chart from grade school. I'm not going to waste my time fighting that battle since no one seems to care anyway. Give me a winning football team and they can wear pink for all I care at this point.

Well said, PK. Well said. There was a reason he selected those colors & we definitely strayed from that reason. Longtime - if I were you, I'd return it. This isn't SMU & you didn't get what you thought you were getting. Actually, you didn't get anything remotely associated with SMU. http://www.advanced-online.com/Custom/B ... _Entry.asp I think almost every college team in the country uses that color blue. Give it a year or so & we'll change again, again, & again!!! It's such a joke around there. I've about given up on this issue. All they do is get these stupid focus groups together & come up with these goofy colors that have NOTHING to do with the school's original colors. It's almost like they're trying to find an excuse not to use our "school colors" which are gorgeous when used in combination with one another. I saw that shirt (& others) on the site & I said no way will I ever purchase anything from them again!!! Why don't we just let the alums vote on this & we'll kill this absurd idea once & for all!!! By the way. Hey Orsini!!! Why don't we change Notre Dame's colors!!!!???? ![]() ![]() ![]() BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
I don't think the current administration has a clue as to the original intent of any of the school's traditions including the choice of school colors. I guess it is asking too much of the new blood from other backgrounds and traditions to pay heed to our history. Another 20 to 25 years (God willing) and I will be history and it won't matter any more to me. The age of me, me, me apparently has no room for history or tradition...it's all about the mighty buck. Sad, sad, sad...
And all a long I thought you were a traditionalist. Hate to be the one to tell you, but the new "official" school colors aren't the '80s colors either.
Well said PK.
It's obvious that these baffoons have too much time on their hands or they wouldn't be changing our school colors. Plus their "new" $%%$# colors are UGLY!!! And the traditional navy & crimson are gorgeous & strong colors. How would you like to be making that kind of $$$ & all you're doing is worrying about changing something that doesn't & shouldn't be changed in the first place? Never fret, they'll be changed again in 2-3 years. PK - these guys don't give a damn about our traditions & they have way to much time on their hands!!! Obviously they make too much $$ if they're worrying about changing something that already works. BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

LOL - funny jstang -
Yeah - that was a joke - that 'swooping' logo or whatever it was??? GEEEE - they did that & that was a disaster & now they're screwing with this??!! That should have taught them but then again - are we really surprised??? I still think it's time to change the Notre Dame colors!!!! Hey Orsini - why don't you try that one??!! Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue both shift over time as well. Litterally using whatever colors they are using at a given time might not turn out so well every year.
I like the new colors, but I do think shirts needs to have a slightly darker red.
They don't shift that much. They are both 'dark' colors.

If you notice at the games, the SMU flag flying next to the U.S. stars and stripes flag uses basically the same shades of red and blue as the stars and stripes flag and the Texas flag. Those are excellent shades of red and blue IMHO and much better than our "official" red and blue shades. The blue is not quite as dark as Navy blue, but dark enough.
pk - what does "IMHO" mean? Thx in adv -
