From the man who forgot more football than we will ever know (courtesy of the DMN)
"Anytime when you give up the yards we've given up defensively, you've got to look at everything," Bennett said. "We've got to do a better job of getting what we're teaching across."
Bennett said if that means simplifying things defensively, so be it.
I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

How about teaching the defense to stop quick slant? Or the 10 yard out? Or to tell James Mapps to get out of Jessie Henderson's way on kick returns? This could last forever.

The defense looks pretty base as it is. It is easy to pick apart a base defense if that is the only defense played. Of course, if a defense can't even execute with a base defense, then more complex schemes are sure out. How base is it? Well, just about everyone on this board has wondered why we don’t play bump and run on the corners. I suppose there is a very good reason like the inability of a lot of new and inexperienced players to play the coverage behind a bump and run. How successful is our pass rush? Watch as all four lineman run the same rush time and time again. Few stunts and fewer lineman moves (except for the inside spin move of Muse). The blitz is our best rush and our secondary is not a well skilled man-to-man secondary, yet. So we play a pretty base defense and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist offensive coordinator to pick that apart.

Has anyone been able to find out what he DOES remember about football? I'm at a loss here.

Not yelling "all out" when you're about to blitz would be a nice start.

The new defensive approach is to pass these signs out to the crowd.

From the east to the west (the field) blow the trumpet to arms (Fiddler OTR band)! Through the land let the sound of it flee (from the sideline to the huddle); Let the far and the near all unite, with a cheer (all 192 of us in the stands), In defense of our Liberty Tree (the Hilltop's and the Pony D's dignity).
