Too many 3rd and long situations. We were like 1 for 15 (or so) on 3rd down. Too many stupid penalties when it counted.
No penalties, Lowery catches the ball, we have a possible game.

4 for 16 on third down, 25% is a lot better than 6.67%. Needed to be higher, obviously. We had only 5 penalties for 30 yards which pales in comparison to TCU's 12 penalties for 110 yards. You might want to find other things to complain about.
Last year we lined the tight end up near quarterback for blocking purposes...what happened to that play? Martin isn't quick enough to run around the end but needs to go north and south when possible. I agree with stallion...quarterback might have to move but would move up in the pocket, not around and around and around looking for open receivers...Our youth seems to be in the defensive line but they seemed to play quite well considering the overall defense. The boys were playing their hearts out or at least the quarterback was. The answer ....I don't know but looks to be some changes this year unless we win the rest would blow my mind. Go Mustangs!!!
Sorry bud, 4 for 16 is not good. The penalties were in crucial situations, yes only 5, but they were not at good times.
I never said it was good. You said we were 1 for 15, which was quite wrong. I would look at the busted punt protection and some of Willis's decisions with the football as to why we lost.
SMU has scored the ONLY TD against tcu's highly-ranked defense in Q1 (at least from all your rants on this site). Not Baylor. Not Texas. Not AF. SMU. How was it down? For the 1st time in years, a couple of series were drawn up with play calling to our strengths. Let JW use his feet in options & sprint outs. Then, we get DM in running plays where he can square his shoulders & punish defenders. Maybe that opens up some passing, too. Now, I've missed a couple of plays in line for hotdogs before, but I have not seen that short-side quick pitch to DM, the one for the TD where he went in untouched. Guess who else hasn't seen that play? Fatterson. They looked a little bit confused. No worry, we would not see it again as our gifted OC went into his shell & reverted to the same vanilla plays he has run for the last few seasons. Despite your other comment, a handful of plays usually DOES determine the outcomes of games. Example: while we practice the usless "swingin gate", teams like tcu work on game changing schemes such as blocking punts & their band plays their fight song. Most coaches work in practice to perfect their strengths or attacking other teams weaknesses. But tcu knew we do not do such things. We like to throw the always lethal down-n-out 2 yd pass. So the LB sits on the route makes an athletic play & their band plays their fight song. Now, they know we play soft at DB, so one 1 series they threw 3 consecutive passes toward Mcann (?). Wonder what they knew? Fortunately, the worst throwing QB in ncaa d-I wears purple & he couldn't hit is own [deleted] with either hand. And, although every Pony fan at Amon Carter knew Jackson couldn't pass gas, our D seldom lined up to get after him. When we did, we succeeded. When we played soft, well even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now & then. They found McCann halfway between nobody... & their band plays their fight song. This was a winnable game against a formidable opponent. "Execution" on offense begins at the top, and there we are lacking.
