It has never been a "hurry up" , it has been a "no huddle". Now they do a brief huddle. Malzahn at Tulsa runs a true hurry up/no huddle. They train them to get a play off within 5 seconds (I believe) of the ball being whistled into play. We just line up, in an effort to keep the defense from substituting and call the play after that. When substitution is attempted, as happened once with TCU, we go on a quick snap to catch them with too many players on the field and get a free play.

Ok thanks guys, I think I better understand now. This is basically a way to prevent substitutions on the defense. Not sure I like it, but I can now see the logic.

Maybe it was because of the noise from the TCU fans that caused us to do this, but we did huddle.

Ok, I must have missed it when it happened. I know that they normally don't huddle, or as previously mentioned, the receivers will stay out wide and the line will sorta "congregate amongst themselves".

Just out of curiosity though, does JW have the ability to check down the play, or does it come from the sidelines as well? I too have noticed that even though we don't huddle up in the normal sense of the term, that a lot of times the game clock is very close to zero when the ball is snapped.

the world was a better place when football teams huddled between plays. Civilization has gradually deteriorated since this practice began

And with it the consequent uptick in the number of lawyers.

Isn't it ironic that about the time players started the trend of holding hands when they huddled that the no huddle offense was introduced. HMMMMMM. I wonder if there is something behind this.

This is no gimme this weekend. We have to (1) show up. (2) Play defense like last week (except better because TCU fumbles and can't hold onto passes); (3) Martin needs to clear out the cobwebs after the head shot he took; (4) Willis needs to get some more time to throw. If we do those four things, we can beat UTEP. BTW, this is a MUST win for PB. He has no leeway from here on out.

clearly a toss-up game; two teams trying to put together a winning season and bowl game. Loser of this one probably in for a long year. I expect a very competitive and entertaining game and for the Miners to bring close to as many fans out to Ford as we do
