in one game?....that has to be a record. Mike Cavan only lost one 14 point lead and that was never forgotten. So this may go down in SMU lore.
SMU led 14-0
21-7
28-14
42-28

I remember one we thought was all tucked away--the DickerJames Holiday Bowl against BYU. But I don't rember if it happened even twice in that game.
Unless I'm missing something, SMU only "lost" two 14-point lead. Ponies went up 14-0, and extended that lead to 28-7. UTEP tied it up on Sam's 12-yard TD run, so that's one 14-point lead lost. Got up 42-28 on the 38-yard TD pass from Willis to Sledge, and obviously lost that lead. So SMU lost two 14-point leads, not three. Right?
I'm sure Stallion counted blowing the 21 point lead as two of the 14 point leads blown...
I still don't know why everybody is overreacting. UTEP has a great coach who is only at UTEP because he is smart enough to party with college girls. I would do the same thing if I was employed at a university. Phil will certainly have the team ready for Southern Miss and we should roll through CUSA and end up in a bowl.
WoW! Either genius or Kool-Aid. You make the call
Actually, I think he just likes yanking people's chain. Some how he thinks it's humorous. ![]()
Re: Has SMU Ever Lost 3 14 Point Leads
How many all-star performances has this defense given up this season? NT QB: 601 yards NT WR: 347 yards UTEP Backfield: best game EVER
against a team with a Coach who has coached several defenses into the Top 10 in the country as a defensive coordinator. What does that tell you Sherlock? SMU is not very talented on defense. Its obvious to anyone that SMU has thrown together a collection of sleepers who did not come through as hoped. Only a handful were highly recruited-and they appear to be overrated too.
