Kudos to the Offensive LineI really thought they played well in the first half especially. Even when Willis scrambled he had happy feet. Consistently had 5-6 seconds to find receivers. Then the drive in the first half where Mapps had huge holes up the gut of the defense was impressive. I thought they played better than they have in a long time. Of course UTEP has had just about every CB and every DT out with an injury and it showed. Good Coaching on Phil's part because he attacked a weakness.

They gave Dorsey all sorts of running room too.
Its interesting, but Ben Poynter fell on his sword after the game stating that when it came down to it, the offensive line just wasn't able to finish off the game. He's a very very intense young man.

SMU's line didn't seem to block well on their last drive. However, I really questioned the decision to run Mapps outside on 3rd and 4. I would have had Willis look for a short pass (not a screen) in that situation because a first down could have wasted away most of the clock and I believe that tossing the ball has a better chance of getting the first in that situation than trying to run it. JMO.
That last series was the only time I really questioned the playcalling. They stopped trying to score points on that possession. This team needs to score points every time they have the ball. We knew there would be shoot-outs, I just figured we'd manage to win the close ones at home. -CoS
