The crowd looked pathetic on tv and there seemed to be more cheering for UTEP than the home team.

Most of the SMU people and students had moved over to the shady side, home field side, maybe they didn't pan that side much?

The SMU side looked quite full and was often panned. The endzone and the visitors side was sparse to empty, except for the student section and band. Mostly, the camera crew avoided crowd shots.
16,464 was the official attendance

UTEP's Marcus Thomas had 35 rushes for 212 yards.
SMU's Mapps had 26 rushes for 150 yds and Sledge went 125 yds on 5 receptions.

Keep in mind however that there were more students sitting with their parents on the home sideline this weekend.

that "half empty" Ford Stadium is the best it will look the rest of this season. Rice, Tulane and UCF will bring very few and not many SMU people are ready to "Pony Up" for this product. Homecoming might draw 12,000 but otherwise it's going to be pretty quiet in Ford the rest of this season.
Long live the 1500

The official attendance must have included some fans dressed as empty seats. Anything over 15K seems like the results of a Florida election. I suspect a hanging chad. How about haging PB?

I'm on the 50 and all of the empty seats were filled by people who had moved over. It was a LOT more packed than even the Tech game in our section.

The next game is going to be a lot more fun since we are playing the powerhouse - Tulane. I would say 9,000, of which 8,999 are refugees from New Orleans!

The Plano-Allen High School game had at least 14,000 in actual attendance.

don't both those schools have enrollments comparable to SMU's?

Plano only has 2,500+. Just Juniors and Seniors go to the Senior High. Probably an equal number of freshman and sophmores at the feeder schools.
Allen has 3,600+ in the High School but another 1,800 Freshman that go to a seperate school.
Probably close to 10,000+ students at both schools.
