This is the mindset that I just don't understand. Coming on a message board and proudly announcing that you are going to drop your support of a SCHOOL that I think you want to see do well. I'm not happy with where we are, so I've made that known to our administration. But I've also offered whatever I can do to help make it better. But I haven't proclaimed that I'm going to stop supporting the kids that represent the school that I cheer for.

I wish more people on this site would offer solutions than resolving themselves to the easy way out of just [deleted] about where we are.

Depending on what happens the rest of this football season and/or the off-season, I could see spending money on an extra basketball season ticket and/or soccer games next year. That way the money is still going to SMU.

When I spend the type of money that I have spent over the last 20 years, and I don't have even 1 not ONE winning season to show for it, I think I have done my bit. Plus I have Quadrupled my giving to the Mustang Club and now give a low 4 figures, which I will venture a guess is a hell of a lot more than PonyRide, Stallion, or a lot of the other contributors to this board. Trying to beg friends to go to these games is like trying to get my dead father to rise out of the grave. It doesn't happen! It obvious I support the players, but I believe that you show you don't like the direction of something by letting their pocketbook know it! It seems to work in every venture I have ever been involved in and I firmly believe it will work with SMU. If the Administration gets their act together, I will continue to buy the tickets. If not, I will cut back. PonyRide, I know that you will be more than happy to make up the difference. By the way, I am still buying all 4 season tickets for basketball. Have you bothered to support that program?

Another thing no one talks about is how many players have left SMU or gotten hurt. Two Qbs Josh McCown and Richard Bartel transfered to smaller schools and are now on NFL rosters. Also we've had several players show glimpses of greatness early in careers, but then injuries hurt them in the end like chris cunningham, kris briggs, shanderrick charles, even ramon flannigan and vic villoria were hurt their senior seasons. And maybe even demyron martin will fall into that category. Just imagine if all these players stayed healthy what SMU could have done

McCown transferred during Cavan's watch. Bartels under Bennett's. Both qb's were not just bad but awful during their tenures at SMU. That's a fact. Now you can say that is the coaches' fault and clearly they share some of the blame. The problem is that when players play bad and get benched, they have really two choices, ride pine and be a team player or leave and go somewhere where they can play. Those players left. Injuries to running backs happen. Given that we have to recruit players that are on most people's left over lists, most players we get to come here, may have had injuries in high school or may have been small to begin with. That is why we lose some good players to injury.

back to the original post, I think most can agree Bennett is one of the "good guys" in football and it's a shame to see good people let go, but he's a big boy - and he knows in this profession MOST coaches are hired to be fired.

It's really a shame when the only thing that produces any optimism towards this program is firing the coach and hiring a new one. No sense re-hashing all the "other things" that need to be changed. With each firing, hopefully we move closer and closer to doing everything we can to become competitive - and to give the new guy a chance to be the guy who finally turns this thing around.

One thing that should be in our favor if we change coaches is how patient our administration has been over the years with coaches at this school. You can't ask for any more than 6 years to build a program. I would think that would be a positive for a prospective head coach!
