Request for all those who claim problems with the model

What, in your opinion, can the individual fan, without the resources of a Gerald Ford, do to bring about the changes necessary to fix the model so that SMU can field successful athletic programs?

On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

I would say that you should not expect any changes, but if changes occur that help in the recruitng of better athletes, and cause an upsurge in the overall program, you should be pleasantly surprised.

Quit giving money to the SMU Mustang Club (a/k/a the SMU Loser Club) and quit going to games. Many people have already done this (if you don't believe me then look around at all the empty seats the next time you go to a game). The coaches, AD, and our President have been blowing smoke up our you-know-whats for years. Why do you guys keep taking it?

That obviously hasn't worked.

While I appreciate jtstang's and mrydel's jests, I was actually hoping for a positive, proactive discussion that might lead to some solutions for the fan to have an actual impact with the school and athletic department.

I don't see how withdrawing support for the team will help. I would think that it would just provide fodder to those that want to end the athletic programs altogether, rather than force the school to make us better.

I was jesting and I appreciate your desire for an answer, but I do not have one for you. But I can assure you that quiting on the team is not the answer.

Like in so many things in life (unfortunately) only money talks and the vast majority of us don't have enought of it to be heard. Collectively, maybe...but I doubt even then we could come close to equaling the influence of a select few of our alumni based upon their ability to cough up large sums of money to support their desires. I would think by now Gerald Ford has had enough, but then he has already poured 20 million plus into this program...he may be thinking someone else needs to pony up now. I hope there is someone else to do so. If I win the lotto, I'll do my part.
