Is this the lowest point in SMU football history?

Postby DanFreibergerForHeisman » Fri Sep 26, 2003 2:54 pm

Has it ever been any worse than that it is this week being 18 point underdogs to a Division I-AA school?

No! Hopefully the fact that we can't win a football game does not ruin our chance to get into a better conference.

how can one tell a low spot on a flat, barren plain of ineptitude. Seriously, this program has accomplished essentially nothing in 15 years-how is this different.

We've built a new football stadium, hired a helluva football coach, and racheted up our recruiting, Stallion.

Those who are b*tching and moaning about our recent success forget that we're reaping the "fruits" of some pretty sorry recruiting classes post-Malin. No, not pretty sorry. Dreadful. But we've got good, young talent. And if Bennett can keep it up, which he's apparently going to do if the likes of Vincent Chase are any indication, then we'll be fine.

Now stop whining.

Amen. There have been a lot of schools that have enjoyed recent success that were Div I-A just a few years ago. The problem with the comparison is that they are usually schools with VERY FEW recruiting restrictions and are typically schools with a much larger student population and lower admissions standards (ie Nevada, UCF, USF, Marshall, etc.)

If this is the lowest point for us, then I would say that rice and tulane must be glorified high school teams - after the spank UT is puttin' on them the past two weeks

and just think... Rice lost big-time to... DUKE (that football factory)

Hi y'all....Nevada fan here...

FYI - we haven't been in Division I-AA since 1991, and in that time span, we've been to 3 bowl games...so, just to let ya know.

By the way, Kincade is a stud...saw him live tonight, and he's the real deal. I think he's a definite NFL prospect. Of course, so is Kretschmer Image

Good game tonight, and good luck against UTEP

This is not our low point, although attempting a “Swinging Gate” during the first quarter with a team starving for points certainly deserves some consideration.

UTEP scored 59 points tonight. Our season is 1/3 over and we have yet to score more than 1 touchdown during a game.

No, the low point will occur next week, during the “Pillow Fight of the Decade”, especially if Wallis is our QB.

Bennett has made a huge tactical mistake. He, more than anyone else, should have understood the deficiencies of our offensive line (injuries, by the way, are a fact of life, not having JCs is another story). If he is going to replace Bartel with a more mobile QB, it should have been Chris Phillips. Tate may have a lot of heart, but he is not the answer. Now we are a third of the season done, winless, and Chris has taken zero snaps.

I personally didn’t care how we performed this season, except in the context of building momentum in our recruiting. Coach Bennett is a terrific recruiter, but this has got to make his job so much tougher and that is truly unfortunate.

This IS truly the WORST SMU Football team I've ever seen...worst players, worst coaching and most sugar-free vanilla offense in NCAA Division I-A.

Who goes for a two point conversion when their only winning 9-0? Who fumbles on their own 20 with 2 minutes left in a tie ball game? I guess the same team that fair catches a punt on the 8 yard line.

Offensive play calling can't get any more boring or predictable..if you noticed, Coach, they broke the super secret code to our offense in the 3rd quarter.

I'm done...my season tickets are going in the trash, and I will not be buying them next year. I'm tired of ruining my fall weekends by following these bumbling fumblers and hoping for a win.

Oh, and I don't care what anyone says..."wait until next year"..."wait until 2006"...yada, yada, yada...Bennett is NOT taking this team in the right direction with this kind of pathetic offense...

SMU will NEVER have a competitive football program again...there's not even a committment to it by the school...Turner doesn't even know what a football looks like.

Arrrhhhh...who cares, anyway...

Echo: you should have put some big money down on the Ponies to cover that 19 pt spread they were given last night. You'd be feeling a lot better this morning.
