Much of Johnson's success has been predicated on his triple option flexbone offense, a run oriented attack that has led NCAA DI-A football in rushing yards three of the last four years. Some have criticized the triple option as an antiquated, unbalanced system unfit for major college football, which may explain some BCS teams' reluctance to offer him a position despite his accomplishments at both Georgia Southern and Navy. Johnson has rebutted this argument in numerous press conferences and interviews, asserting that several top teams, including 2005-2006 national champion Texas and 2006-2007 national champion Florida, utilize various forms of the option. He has repeatedly stated that the superior athletes in power conferences could help the triple option flourish.

However Johnson has also stated that if he had a good throwing quarterback he would utilize the pass more often.

Dude was June Jones OC at Hawaii. He knows the passing game. And he also know his personel and that's why he uses the triple option at Navy. He doesn't have any passers.

Paul Johnson was at Georgia Southern from 1997 till he got the Navy job. June Jones took over at Hawaii in 1999 so no, Johnson never coached with Jones. That said, Johnson is flexible-I believe he ran a more wide open offense at Geogia Southern then he is running at Navy. He is running that offense at Navy to suit his talent only. I believe Army runs a type of spread and look how they have been doing. Not very successful. And to think Johnson took his first year team with little talent, ran the option, and crushed Bennett in their first games. I knew Bennett's days would be numbered right off the bat. But 6 year?-thanks to our AD. And finally, I seriously doubt Johnson will leave Navy at all but we can hope!

How 'bout June Jones? He might be tired of the beach and scoring 50 points a game.

He sure spoiled Pfil's first game at SMU :!:

First the Navy F18 flyover strafes the hill, and sets it on fire.
Then the Marine tanks roll over us something like 37 - 7.
