Championships Displays?

Postby FordtoTolbert » Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:20 pm

Do we display / acknowledge our National Championship / SWC Titiles / Bowl Games somewhere in our stadium? Not in a hallway by a 45 minute hot dog line, but INSIDE the stadium?

The people who designed and built the stadium were too young to remember any of them.

Yes in the large cylinder of the All Sports Center there are large banners for every national championship the school has won in each respective sport. I keep pushing for a banner for 1981, and 1982, because if we like to print here that we won them, we ought to acknowledge them as well.

FtoT means something that is actually visible to people who are sitting in Ford Stadium, not wandering around the concourse or stumbling into the Paul Lloyd All Sports Center on gameday. There should be something HUGE on either the scoreboard or under the skyboxes like the 'Ring of Honor' at Texas Stadium. Right, FtoT?

I think it is only open on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m til 7:45 p.m. If it was open on game day, more than 6 people might go in there and then we'd have to call in the yellow shirts for "crowd" control.

Is this the most illogical thing you've ever heard. Yes we've got this great Football Display but its not open on GameDay when people might actually see it. Wouldn't it be great to be able to take your kid to see a display about Doak Walker and show him the Heisman Trophy? As far as I'm concerned they might as well not have bothered.

Can anyone work up a rough cost estimate to do a "Ring of Honor" type thing under the club level or near the scoreboard? I can organize some fund raising to get it done. The donation could be on behalf of PonyFans.com or how ever it plays out.

Ranks right up there with having a merchandise store in the stadium that's closed on game day.

I know there are tables set up someplace with hats, T-shirts, etc., for sale, but there are folks who come into town and remember the Spirit Shop being there .... and walk over to find a locked door and no sign of life.

Is the Museum being closed on gameday a recent decision? I've taken people in there at halftime before, not this year, but in the recent past.

They should just close the entire stadium on game day and then find a way to broadcast the 1982 Texas-SMU game to all of those who are set up on the Blvd.

It's a win-win scenario.
