Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortOK I've read all the posts so far and don't think its pointed out enough what a truly outstanding defensive effort that was. This defensive essentially shut-out a pretty strong Nevada offense. Big plays from new faces like Brad Bean, Desmond Jones, Brandon Bonds, Joey Sturdivant and old veterans like Alan Adami, Jonas Rutledge, Melvin Williams and Stansbury among others. These guys picked themselves off the ground from a particularly embarrassing performance and basically performed at the maximum level you can expect from these guys-and that's twice now in two weeks. No one could really expect more than they showed tonite. Congrats.

Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortAbsolutely. The defense did everything you could ask but score a touchdown.
Go Ponies!!
Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortI agree, "Way To Go Defense"
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive Effortagreed. I liked hearing Bonds, Jones and particularly Sturdivant's names being called so often last night. This bunch might turn out to be a very competitive team in WAC play. They can start salvaging their season next week against UTEP. With a little momentum, I would not rule out an upset for these guys before the season is done. I do think we may need to go to a QB shuttle and RB shuttle to stimulate some offense. When you control the ball over 40 minutes, you should be scoring more than 9 pts.

Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortGreat job, D. Lotta good stick-and-drive!!!
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive Effortre: Stallion's praise of SMU Defense
Ok Stallion you are correct, the SMU defense deserves some serious praise. But Stallion do you think we should bring Tom Rossley back as OC? Or does Stallion think he knows more than the Green Bay Packers? LOL ![]()
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortOne thing that really helped the D was that Mentzel punted MUCH better last night. I hope that is a sign of a trend. Field position is critical to our D. And as I posted last week, the OK State game was really over at 17-0 before our defense even made a mistake. Then they got frustrated and demoralized, so I thought they would be okay and it looks like they will.
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive Effortif Tom Rossley was coach I'm sure we would have lost 30-14 while Chance Kretchmer ran for 248 yards on 32 carries against a befuddled SMU defense who simply was incapable of physically or mentally defending the rush after practicing against his rinky-dink offense all year. Nevada probably would have had about 32 First Downs and controled the ball for 39 minutes.

Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortThe Packers aren't exactly lighting it up offensively.
And when you list the defensive players who deserve accolades for yesterday's performance, let's not forget Alvin Nnabuife, whose interception stopped a Nevada drive deep in SMU territory. Rich and Craig sure sounded like Nnabuife played great.
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortStallion
I did not say Tom Rossley should be head coach, I asked you about him being the OC. SMU plays pretty good defense, but needs help on offense. If you took the time to read my post instead of having your "little temper tantrum" about Rossley, maybe we could have a real discussion here. ![]()
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortNo I think Rossley's offenses STUNK and the only reason it was halfway acceptable was because of the athletic play of Ramon Flanigan when he improvised and did exactly the opposite of what Rossley drew up. When he didn't have Flanigan in 1995 in his 5th year as coach he averaged 12 points per game. I think we ought to a lot more worried about finding athletes like Ramon Flanigan as opposed to firing our coaching staff. And as I said in my prior post there is no way a defense can simulate a running attack when they spend the entire year practicing against his offense-if Rossley is the offensive coordinator Chance Kretchmer has a field day. And as for temper tantrums you are talking about rehiring a coach with a lifetime 25% winning percentage who had about 5 wins in 36 games against our traditional rivals in the SWC and never could beat Rice.

Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortWas Rossley OC during Gregg's tenure except for the last year?
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortWho was/were the offensive coordinator(s) under Cavan?
Re: Kudos to a Truly Outstanding Defensive EffortLarry Kueck was Cavan's last OC and I think he was instrumental in getting David Page to transfer here from Cal by way of a Miss JC.
