It's simple

Postby crispfifty » Sun Oct 14, 2007 9:52 am

I read and read and read posts about we should of done this, or why didn't we go for it on 4th down? Or why is Willis running so much. It's simple, it's the offensive line. Countless times, we haven't been able to put it in on the goalline, why? Our offensive line gets pushed back, or doesn't block anyone. Y'all don't want Willis to take off running so many times or are critical of his game, well you are allowed to be as he his the QB but, if the line can't give him time to make plays, he's not going to make them.
An example, would be when Randy Moss was with Oakland, their line was horrible, and the QB couldn't get him the ball, now, with the Patriots, he's the NFL's leading receiver.
It's simple, it's not Coach Bennett's fault for not going for it on 4th down and kicking, it's not Bennett's fault on 3rd downs to get 1-2 yds. The plays start and end with the line, an interesting stat would be, on 3rd down and less than 3 yds to go, how many yds did we lose, and if we even made it to the line of scrimmage. I'm at every game, and believe if that is documented, it would be extremely obvious that a majority of the time we don't even make it back to the line of scrimmage, so, really, it's simple, it's the O-line

thank you for pointing this out. I think it is well documented on this board that we lack both size and strength in pretty much every position, particularly recruiting - which...kind of explains all the rest...

That's a surprising conclusion after the last 2 games. The sacks have been cut way down in the last 2 games. I think Willis had all day on about 4 deep passes in which no receiver was in better shape to catch the ball than the DB. I think the offensive line might be improving more than any unit on the team right now. Still not very good-but can we really say they are playing worse than any other unit. Maybe after the TCU game where they were physically dominated but I don't see it after the last 2 games

You are admittedly equating weaker opponents with our improvement here, stallion. That is a bit of a stretch.

Stallion, I hope you're not in the financial world, cause I sure as hell wouldn't be giving you my money with your perspective. You are looking at 2 games in which you say there has been improvement, that's what we like to call an anomaly, which is a deviation from the standard. The standard being, a consistent poor level of play and blocking from our line from last year till this year, not just 2 games. I would go ahead and assume you're the bandwagon type too, after reading just one of your posts. And someone who chooses not to believe what they see. So before you start defending the offensive line, take a hard look some stats from more than just 2 games when you believe they played well, you might learn something and come to the realization, that there level of play is sub-par, thus making every other player on offense sub-par, because NOTHING can get started. But thank you for your wonderfully poor thought out respone

I agree that stallion is wrong here - see two posts up - but he is absolutely not the "bandwagon type" as you claim. As I said, the O line may remain the same but appear to improve or regress based on the strength of those we defend against.

chuckle-I'll give you a break on calling me a Bandwaggoner since this is your 5th post, This should be quite amusing to most on this board. Ole Bandwaggoner Stallion. Really though in response to your basic premise I've been the harshest critic on the board concerning the poor play and the overrating of our offensive line over the last 2 years. In the preseason I rated this group a C which is well below the expectations of most on this board for such a veteran unit. I just feel they have shown some improvement after the disasters particularly at TCU. They should-I believe we have 3 Senior starters. I was impressed that they gave Willis all day to throw deep routes on about 4 occassions-and nothing-basically a jump ball-not a single WR was open. In fact, I'd say the offensive line played quite well in the first half. We should have been in the game. In the second half trailing 28-0 no offensive line is going to look good when the there is no running game and the defense can tee off on the QB.

You do not know my previous user name and I have no intention of changing it any time soon. I am pro mustang and anti all those who stand in our way. I am glad that you, too, measure yourself by your number of posts. DB.
