2008 BB Commits and Recruits

Postby MustangIcon » Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:12 pm

It looks like Coach Doherty has 4 scholarships to use on the 2008 recruiting class. We now have 4 verbal commits. Here is a list of players that have either committed to us or we are recruiting for the class of 2008 and a couple others we were in on that committed elsewhere. It appears we are still recruiting a couple players, namely the Stutz kid. Maybe one of our commits right now is a recruited walk-on? Maybe we are offering someone an academic scholarship. Maybe we aren't recruiting any more for the class of '08- I'm not sure.

Please feel free to post any additional information or players in this thread and I will continue to update my post to reflect changes and additions.

Dave Telep -Head Basketball Evaluator at Scout: 'He's an undersized monster. The guy is a beast. He's got a big motor. Having said that, he's no small forward. This is going to be a major energy giver, rebounder and dirty work guy. He's that kid who goes up and gets the tip dunk to swing momentum.'

Politics. If their "insiders" don't know, then neither do they.

Rivals now has the Dubois commitment on line. One reason other than the obvious "political' reason(yeah I'm sure Rivals knew SMU was going to sign an L.A. Point Guard and decided not to rank him to [deleted] off poor ole SMU) was because he has stretched ligaments in his hand and had to miss the summer showcase season. The report said that in addition to UNLV and Utah he also had interest-no reported offers- from Stanford and New Mexico State

OK I found some good info on Dubois. He plays on a team that has won something like 9 state championships under their present coach-I think as recently as 2005-so he plays at an extremely high level. Also, he seems to consistently contribute as in the games I saw on the net he scored 20, 15, 15, 14 and 13. He scored 15 points in a "Junior All-American Game" in New Jersey which might have just been a Holiday Season Tournament rather than a true All-American Game.

Junior All American Game

White 104
Black 102
In the junior game Philly prospects Ameer Ali and Kashief Carr had 32 and 30 points respectively to lead the White squad to a come from behind victory over the Black. 6-foot-2 sophomore Jared Dubois from Westchester HS in Los Angeles added 15 for the winners.

6-foot-7 Fremont, CA sophomore Troy Gillenwater led the White team with 24 points. 6-foot-6 St. Patricks (NJ) junior WF Jeff Robinson had 21 points, and 6-foot-9 Philadelphia Prep Charter junior Markief Morris added 18. 5-foot-10 Michigan sophomore Brad Redford was on fire in the first half with 19 points, but did not score in the second half.

Mr. Brilliant, the politics comment applies to all schools, not us. In fact, I wasn't even really considering us as a reason for his non-ranking.

Go to Walgreens and find some Midol.

He didn't SIGN with us. He committed to us. You're telling me they didn't have a feel for this kid before the injury or the showcase? The kid is in Los Angeles.

Bump. We can add Justin Haynes to the list and there are a few more that we have offered: Damian Lillard, Garrett Stutz and Michael Morrison.

Updated some of the new prospects we are looking at. Didn't really build up a writeup on each for now bc I am too lazy but there are some links that you can checkout and do some further research on your own for anyone who is interested.

so if Stutz wants to play at SMU, who doesn't get his scholarship renewed? 13 'ships is the max, right?

Maybe someone on the roster (or a recruit) has a parent about to take a job at SMU. Don't employees get a tuition benefit for their children? Dement's son was a recipient, wasn't he?
