Sherwood Blount or Max Williams might be available. They could bring some burgers and Cheer.

No FordtoTolbert,

We need to hire a guy who understands what it takes to run a Division I football program, has a strong background in recruiting wherever he has been, manages a game, trusts his coordinators to draw up a sound gameplan and keep selling the program to the masses.

If he has Dallas ties, it would be a coincidence. How many ties did Mike Price have at El Paso? They've done OK with him. How many ties did Bob Stoops have with OU? Nothing that I can recall.

You get a guy who understands the vision, and really has the support of the administration. If you have that and the aforementioned, then your program will succeed.

Meh, whatever. Either way, Stallion's right.

Def. agree with that we need a coach who has won before and can recruit thats why i think bowden is our guy. But for this board ramon flannigan and is an smu guy, he was a good oc at north texas where he took that offense to leading the sun belt in offense took that took them to 3 bowl games and a team that led nation in running. Now as for applewhite, until vince he was the best UT qb ever. He was benched because the guy in fron of him happened to be chris SIMMS son of phil SIMMS. Thats why after throwing 4 picks in the big 12 championship against colorado applewhite replaced simms and on his second play threw 70 td to bj johnson. Then in holiday bowl led texas to what was then there biggest 4th quarter comeback in history. APPLEWHITE is a legend and i believe was the most underrated and unappreciated player in his 4 years.

I thought this was PB strength? I don't care where the next coach gets his players from. PB got most of his players from TX and we have what we have.

Phil Bennett and Jimmy Tubbs were as wired into Dallas as you could get, they failed. They did not land the big fish or even a large number of decent sized fish. A coach with national success and name recognition will have a better chance recruiting kids than say some guy who's from the same neighborhood and is now a first time head coach, but that they never heard of before. We also need someone who can take what we have right now and have a near .500 season or better the next two years while he recruits his guys. That takes someone with head coaching experience. Right now, we need someone who can be a face for the program so that they don't look at the program.

The reason we don't get Dallas kids is that we've gotten too much coverage in the Dallas Morning News over the last twenty years.

OR-See-Nee wrote:We need the best person who is available for the job. Period. Doesn't matter where he's from, geographically. A recruiter can recruit. Don't know what makes the greater Dallas area so different than other places in the country. A significant way to turn this program around is to get new blood in here with different ways of doing things. Like winning.

Great point!

Happened to watch Ron Prince's K-state press conference yesterday from Big 12 roundup and he went on and on about Fedora, how his offense always had people in the right places, players always knew assignments, etc. and anyone would be lucky to have Fedora on their staff. Also said he was sure Fedora would be head coach soon and that school would be lucky to have him.

Unsolicited OU's defensive coach also went on and on about the job Fedora was doing at OSU when asked who was doing a good job this year in the conference of getting players to play their system.

Don't know Fedora at all, but the praise from both these other coaches seemed genuine and not just usual puffing up of opponents. Maybe he is someone Steve-O should at least have on the list, esp. if he does have Dallas and Texas ties.
