yeah, they're doing pretty well. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Master Recruiter
Good Lord, once again I will remind you that coaches are only 25% of the recruiting process. Schools recruit football players not coaches. When a coach comes into your home they never discuss football, it is all about the school, and what the school has to offer. High school football players understand the teams, good and bad. By the way Mac Brown is the best politician, but he could not change the direction of this program. The institution must change. Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.
Recruiting is only a part of the overall equation, but it baffles me that Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kansas, Iowa State and Houston recruited a kid out of Denton High School, who is currently #8 in the nation in rushing (yds. per game), but Phil Bennett obviously never gave him a look. The kid was in SMU's own backyard and he wasn't recruited.
Rashard Mendenhall at Illinois? Because he's #8 in the nation.
Doesn't surpise me we didn't give him a look, as I have mentioned before we apparently have no presence in south Texas even at schools with good programs (Smithson Valley, Judson, etc.) but Tulsa, UTEP, UH, and others do. See my previous posts on not talking about Wright kid from Reagan, Smithson Valley's LB, etc. who are heading to Tulsa.
he's talking about UH RB Anthony Aldridge from Denton-just down the road-I'm starting to believe the reports that Bennett only recruits players that come to his camp. Aldridge was a 3 star so its not like he was invisible.
Perhaps his Rivals subscription ran out. ![]()
I bet it hasn't-seriously I get a kick out of these coaches blasting Rivals and Scout when they subscribe to these services too. It would almost be Coaches' malpractice not to-if for no other reason they tell you what the players are thinking. Its would be almost like a lawyer going to Court without reading the Statements of key witnesses or investigating persons listed on a witness list. Don't kid yourself, Coaches know exactly what Rivals is reporting.
GPA and SAT, or whatever test they take now. We are limited to whom we can talk to due to grades, so we get the players who score 1100 on the SAT (or whatever) and carry a 3.5. No 300 lbs and not 4.2's in the 40. We are small and slow!
Obviously not, we have tried for 20 years. What is the definition of insanity?
Look at his recruits and compare (if possible) those who went to his camp vs. those who didn't. I bet it is so correlated that there is no way to come up with any other explanation. The ones who didn't come to his camp are targeted, and I betcha they will look like neither rhyme nor reason to what they were targeted for. We know your alter ego likes to throw out such witticisms to appear "edgy." But if Steve-O brought that guy in, I would walk to the middle of the 50-yard line to vomit. Then I would leave the stadium and never return until he was done. I still cringe every time people describe him as some kind of "class act" and laud his reign over the FCA. Personally, I still wish the cops at Ownby Stadium had let Forrest Gregg reach him after that [deleted] called a fake punt when his Baylor High team had a huge lead on an SMU team that basically consisted of freshmen only. Coach Gregg would have made the Bennett/Leach showdown look like a gentle hug.
