Timing on Announcement for new hireI say we go ahead and announce it this week-
I know mathematically he could still end up 6-6, but come on it is time to move on- I think the cupboard is more bare than when PB arrived Thanks for all that you do pb enjoy your retirement, as for getting a defenseive coordinator position Good Luck with his team stats, I'm sure he is really proud of what he accomplished absolutely disgusted and pathetic!
Re: Timing on Announcement for new hire
I think this has more to do with facilities than with PB. We need a legitimate D1 stadium before we keep recycling coaches. If you take a look at our recruiting rankings, we used to recruit better when we played in a big-time stadium (i.e. the Cotton Bowl).
Re: Timing on Announcement for new hire
Wha? Are you kidding, or what? We have great facilities that we can't even fill up. Ford is a very cozy place to play. And it could be better if filled up. Don't use the Cotton Bowl as an example of "big-time stadium". It's a dump, even when renovated. It gets by on nostalgia. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." Oops. Sorry. ![]() "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Really, I'm not sure about that.
Not sure that I am sorry, or that he was being sarcastic? Oh well...my point is made no matter. "Moderation in all things, and especially in Absoluts [vodka]." The Benediction, Doc Breeden, circa 1992
Not sure that he was sarcastic.
Stadium is fine, and the cupboard has infinitely more talent than the one six years ago. There are players here, and the next coach has a chance to come in and win right away (maybe not a conference title, but definitely win some games), in which case he will be hailed as a genius.
we hear this same thing verbatim every time we fire a coach. which is often.
Re: Timing on Announcement for new hire
It'll be a lot better once they renovate the bathrooms and concessions and expand the bowl.
Any coach worth a damn will require SMU to make drastic changes in its model before he will come to SMU. I am sure there are a hundred coaches who would love to have the SMU job. But a big name coach who we need to turn the football team around will certainly demand a more competitive model before he would take the job. Doherty demanded a practice facilty and he got it. The new hire will tell us a lot in terms of Orsini's "Top 25 in all sports" comment is for real or just more bs from the athletic department. Time will tell.....
The Clown was being sarcastic. He has always blamed the demise of SMU on the building of Ford before becoming a football powerhouse. He has oft stated that we got no better recruits because of Ford rather than realizing how much worse it could have been without Ford. He is reveling in the fact that SMU is losing so he can once again show his face and blame it all on the building of Ford Stadium. He only comes out when the team is at its lowest point so he can claim his victory that Ford never have been built.
At the same time, I am waiting for his rant about the new basketball facilities that are being built. I am sure they are wrong also and a total waste of money, and should not have been built until after the national championship comes to SMU. I for one am proud of the facilities, know that they had to be upgraded, and look forward to having the right person to use them in a manner to attract better recruits to my school.
