Richuel Massey
The freshman RB is going to get his redshirt back on, so he'll have a full four years playing for the Ponies. His ankle is sprained worse than originally thought.

Re: Richuel Massey
Damn, I was really looking forward to seeing him play, after all I've read about him. Oh well, I'll see him next year, either in El Paso or at a Conference USA game!
Re: Richuel Massey
If Massey's as good as everyone seems to think, this is the right move. All the stories I read suggest that the Ponies are at least a year away, and if that's the case, it's better to have all your horses mature a little bit.
Re: Richuel Massey
well, maybe it was meant to be that he'd redshirt. I would have still rather seen him play and help us get something going. One real positive is that Massey will still have 3 years left after Foy Munlin graduates after next season. Supposedly Munlin is tearing it up in practice as a xfer from Tech.
Re: Richuel Massey
True - I keep hearing that Munlin and Massey both have run right through the first-team defense.
Hope Massey heals up quickly.

Re: Richuel Massey
How has Massey reacted to the redshirt-playing-injured-redshirt chain of events?

Re: Richuel Massey
I, for one, am thrilled that Massey's getting his redshirt back. I peeked into practice a couple of weeks ago (before the OSU game) and let me tell you, this kid can really run. He's strong as a bull, and he hits the holes so fast! The QB doesn't have to turn around and take three steps to hand off - Massey's already there, and going full speed ahead.
I guess Massey is football's version of Bryan Hopkins -- a truly special talent we won't fully appreciate until his second (and first healthy) year at SMU. Great move, coaches.

Re: Richuel Massey
I was for redshirting him, then when he played I was glad, and now I'm a little relieved the redshirt's back on. Just means we get 4 more years of Massey after this one, and I like that a lot.
Re: Richuel Massey
Four years is vital.
Is nobody else concerned that Calvin Watkins reported in the DMN that Massey has ligament damage in his ankle? Doesn't sound like we're talking about a little sprain here, folks. This could be serious, right? Or is there such thing as "minimal" ligament damage?

Re: Richuel Massey
I noticed that Massey was fully dressed out for the UTEP game and that wouldn't be so if he had more than an ankle strain.
