Get the players back to basics. It always worked in high school. When you didn't tackle properly, you went back to the basics of tackling. Wrap up first, then try to strip the ball.

We would whip some tail since we are a running team and Gush would be prepping the secondary to stop the pass all week long. Then again I might go with the option game since SMU hasn't been able to defend the option since our Head Coach showed up. By the way we are now 7-0 and have scored 248 and given up 59. Clinched the #1 seed in our division.

If this was my team, I would probably change several things but here is what we should concentrate on:
1. Work on tackling
2. Work on tackling
3. Work on tackling
4. Run the Oklahoma drill to work on tackling.
5. Bring in a new special teams coach. Ditch the swinging gate and work on the Kickoff return and blocking a freaking punt. Try watching some Virginia Tech or Air Force game film on how to do it.
6. RUN the G@D D@MN ball. That means ditch the Pistol, have the lineman put their hands down, bring in a tight end and McKinney as a fullback and RUN the G@D D@MN ball. Tulsa can be beat on the ground.
7. RUN the G@D D@MN ball.
8. Get your best players on the field at the same time. If that means going with only 2 wide receivers then so be it. We only have 1 that scares anyone as it is. Might as well try and create matchup problems for the Tulsa defense.
9. Use a few trick plays. What happened to the Sledge double pass play from last year?
10. Fire the Director of High School Relations because somebody has to be fired and his bio says he likes to travel and play golf. He will get to do both.
11. Put Vic Viloria in charge of team morale. He was the only one pumped up all game long.

Instead of wearing a headset, I would modify a Mustang helmet with speakers/microphone to listen and communicate with the coaches. That would look REALLY cool with a zoot suit for gamedays.

Maybe PAMR could PhotoShop Bowden into that getup...

If I were coach... hmmmm.

I would have cleaned out the bank accounts, had the realtor on speed dial, and the wife in the parking lot with the Vette's engine running. By the time the Wave picked up that fumble, I'd be 1/2 way to my new anonymous life in Mexico.

1. QB=Protect the ball and be crisp with progressions; no balls behind receivers.
2. WRs=Run tight routes and THINK when Willis is audibling the play.
3. OL=Block your man or create a nasty pile.
4. RBs=DMart needs to HIT THE HOLE faster. Mapps looks good.

1. DTs=Passion every play.
2. DEs=Stop getting turned and sealed inside; step out and stop that crap.
3. LBs=HIT YOUR GUY. Even if he doesn't have the ball, that first five yards is crucial. You want their offensive personnel looking over their shoulder every single play.
4. Safeties=Same as LB.
5. CBs=Mix up presses and cushion. Make the coverage a coin flip of a guess every play.

O-Coordinator: Six in the box, you run. 7 or more, you pass. Then quit at the end of the season and save some face.

D-Coordinator: Get your D thinking the opposing team called their mama a "ho" or something. Need more passion out there with more anger. Then quit at the end of the season to save face.

Head Coach: Loosen up, Coach. The least you can do is earn your paycheck without making everybody in the stadium uptight with you. You earn good money, you are a good guy, and you will recover your confidence the next job you have. Not having this job can't compare with losing your wife, so spend the next 5 games or so relaxed. You will be glad you did, and so will everyone else.

Dance Team: Move over toward the middle a little more...about where you all warm up before halftime. Ohmigosh ohmigosh ohmigosh...ya'll are so hot it is tough to pay attention. Just keep doing what you do...is just fine.

What would I do right this very minute? I'd probably start playing people I would be counting on for next year more. I would also look at using some of these young players at what I would deem their natural positions, rather than trying to plug a need.

For Defense
I would move Yenga and Smart to LB
DeVon Bailey Starts for me
I'd Play the Bell Kid at one Corner, keep McCann at the other.
I'd experiment with a true nickle package

For Offense
I'd run the ball alot more between the tackels with Martin to keep my D off the field.
Mapps is my 3rd down back
I would find the tight end and throw it too him
Alderick Robinson would be a starter
I'd roll Justin in the pocket alot more to give him time.

Big thing would be recruiting. I'd be sending flowers to every big time DL and LB in the JUCO system. I would focus most of my recruiting budget there.

1. Anyone with a redshirt remaning, doesn't get a helmet for the game.
2. Run DeMyron inside left and inside right
3. Run Mapps outside
4. Set up some screen type plays for Henderson with Vinny Chase and our biggest receiver as blockers
5. Let Henderson return some punts
6. Bring in backup QB with Willis on the field, maybe an option play
7. On defense, bump receivers in a slant pattern to slow them down
8. Ask Vic for help on defense

Not sure what else to do, but if we can really be creative...

Suit up Vic
Play 12 players as often as possible.

Amen brother! Run the ball! Mckinney is the best biggest athlete we have. Why isn't he on the field all the times? He should be playing fullback, linebacker, DE, something other than just special teams and sometime fullback.

ponyfan84 wrote:be agressive and play to win. not this "playing not to lose" crap.

perfect example: going for 2 with 8 seconds left to win the game, not force OT and force your already weak D to defend 25 yards against a RB with 300+ yards already.

I think at home, you go for the tie. If you're on the road, you go for the win in that situation. Same applies for basketball. If your'e down 2 with the ball in your hands with a few seconds left, if you're at home, you go for the 2 points and the tie. If you're on the road, you go for the 3 and the win.

As far as what I would do if I was the coach...not saying I could do a lick better, but from all the mistakes I've seen from watching PB coach for 6 years, I could write the first ever ponyfans novel
