another example of smu products not on shelves

Post by Insane_Pony_Posse »

Here is another example, just one instance, of other
schools having products available but not SMU.

The usual Texas, A&M, Tech, but also Baylor, Houston, TCU, but not SMU.

Yeah this one instance is no big deal,
but it is part of a larger pattern.

Why is that almost always the case?

Was it the case back in the heyday 80's too?

They have us if you click on the collegiate link, just not on the front page.

I stand corrected.
I just wish it was a pattern that we are usually there.

Let's just say our chopsticks are standing upright in our rice bowl.

At least you got us in a bowl, even if we had to die to do it.

So jtstang as old as you appear to be......

Was SMU stuff dominating the shelf space back in the Pony Express days?

Thanks, I'm only 42, but my recollection is that I never had trouble finding SMU swag back then when I wanted some. I'm going to list my stack of original Mustang Mania bumper stickers just as soon as MrMustang54321 reopens his ebay store, along with my ratty 1981 SWC Champions t-shirt, and my yellowing copy of the January 2, 1983 Dallas Morning News with full Cotton Bowl coverage.

The ebay store is permanently closed. However, I will still list items individually from time-to-time. Watch for them under the seller name mrmustang1965. And...thanks for looking! :)

get over it. Have you been to a game lately? We have very few fans attending, and they don't exactly come decked out in school colors.

Can't expect a supply of product when there is so little demand. And that, as much as anything we complain about, is why we are no longer playing with the BCS boys. Not enough people care...or ever cared.

Long live the 1500

Well, they got the right Mustang at least - the one that's on the football helmet, not the one with the exaggerated "S" curl in the tail and enlarged hindquarters that has infected some SMU logowear.

http://www.loneduchess.com/ce-s02.html

However, it needs to say "SMU" somewhere on it. Either on the horse or below it. If the idea is to promote the school and our loyalty to it, it needs to say "SMU" - there are too many copycat Mustangs out there (Grapevine, Richardson Pearce, Roosevelt, etc). While the running Mustang is one of the all-time great symbols, it's not quite as synonymous with SMU as the Longhorn symbol is with UT.

And as for the availability of SMU products in the 1980s, yes, there was more of it available on store shelves back then. Being in the Southwest Conference had a lot to do with it, not just the football team's record or attendance figures. Being associated with the Southwest Conference made it easy for retailers to differentiate between big time schools and also-rans. Now, the Big 12 is the dividing line in many cases. Although nothing irks me more than to see TCU and UofH stuff in a store in Dallas that doesn't carry SMU stuff as well.

And I still can't find any SMU stuff at the Kroger at Mockingbird and Greenville. I saw lots and lots of UT stuff and some A&M stuff, but no Mustangs gear.
