Boston College like Notre Dame is a Catholic school, that pretty much gets any Catholic kid in New England. Joining the ACC has opened up their recruiting area to the entire Mid Atlantic. In many Urban areas in the east, the Catholic schools have the best football and basketball programs, because they can offer scholarships and recruit in the inner cities. Parents of course would prefer their kids to go to private schools than to go to public schools where they might get shot. These schools form a pipeline to schools like Notre Dame, Boston College, Xavier, DePaul, and Gonzaga. And remember the priests at these Catholic high schools let these kids know where they ought to go. They don't get all the recruits, but they do get a good number of them. Because Methodists have not bothered starting many secondary schools or offering lots of inner city scholarships, SMU does not have that pipeline. Now Miami and USC are private schools as well. USC is even Methodist. Now what are they doing that we're not doing?
it makes me cry
