The SMU football team failed to get the job done on 3rd and 2 in the first quarter. The coach decided to let them try again instead of sending a good kicker out for a 44 yard attempt. Instead the team failed again on 4th down.
The team failed on 3 plays inside the opponent's 5 late in the game. The coach opted to let them try again rather than taking a sure 3 points. They failed again.
A coach has to be able to recognize when something isn't working and make a decision to go another route in order to put his team in a better position (i.e. take the 3 points and keep some momentum).

I believe we started at the 5. 3 Martin runs and 1 Mapps run up the middle for 4 yards.

they were trying to run the clock by running the ball. They went for it at the one because if they didn't make it Tulsa would have to go 99 yards. I have no problem with either choice. The players committed all year to get the extra yard between winning and losing. Its a pride thing. They worked all year to get that extra yard-and they didn't accomplish perhaps the Team's biggest Offseason Goal. They lost because they didn't accomplish Goal No. 1

You are completely wrong here. This game doesnt come down to the last 90 seconds if had made better decisions throughout the game.

The clock had nothing to do with their running the ball 4 times like idiots. They ran the ball 4 straight times up the middle, same exact play because they are inept. Anyone who is remotely knowledgable about the game knows you dont run the same exact play 4 straight downs in that situation. They dont even do that in the NFL on the goal line and those are definitely top quality athletes(Stallion). If you watch the games tomorrow you will see countless teams try to run it in and if that doesn't work you can count on seeing the tight end catch a touchdown as a result of a play action pass. Also if the QB doesn't have an open receiver he has the option of running it in. Our QB is athletic enough to do that Stallion. Stallion do you actually watch the games or know anything about the game other than every players ranking on some subjective recruiting list?

No problem whatsoever with that call. We left the ball on the 1 yard line. It was THE Goal of the entire season to be able to make the extra yard that makes the difference between winning and losing. Frankly, I think it would have been an insult to the Team's Season Goal not to go for it. And I gurantee you every single one of the people who blame Bennett for every single loss would have been crying about that too.

On the game thread, we were many of us were calling for the fieldgoal. I said it before we even ran the 3rd down play. Thanks for trying to call us all whiners who dont know anything though. That's really nice of you
