SMU has a better W-L record than Tulsa over the past 7 years because...

a) in 2001 and 2002 Tulsa stunk and had a combined record of 2-21

b) last year SMU defeated a 8-5 Tulsa team. It was one of only 9 games SMU has won over the past 20 years against a team with a winning record. Think blind squirrel.

We beat them in 04, too, if I am not mistaken. Regardless, you're mistaking the forest for the trees about what I am saying.

So what made Tulsa better???? This is my point to Stallion. Did Tulsa change their MODEL once Kragthorpe took over?? NO! Kragthorpe is a better coach than the one before and Graham is a good coach as well. It is not the MODEL people.

In fact Tulsa gets a lot of athletes that SMU recruited. A lot of them chose Tulsa for rea$ons other than the fact they wouldn't qualify for SMU admission. I would venture to say numerous athletes Tulsa won from SMU would have gained admission to this University.

Yes, we also beat them in 04. Tulsa was 4-8 that year, with a victory over Missouri State. So in conclusion, 3 of our 4 victories came against very poor Tulsa teams...hey YOU brought them up...not me.

I am hardly mistaking the forest for the trees....that is what 80%+ on this board are doing.

Will firing PB help this program...probably yes...although looking at the performances of our past HCs on my Tick Tock post, there is no guarantee of that.

Will changing our Model to be on par with our natural rivals help this program...ABSOLUTELY.

Best of all worlds...hire a Great HC and let him COMPETE...wow, what a novel concept...

How does jumping on Stallion correct anything?

Does it make you feel better or release some anger? I've come to enjoy Stallions position on this board as honored debater. I define that as the person who constantly points out the prime negative existing issues.

Instead of piling on Stallion, ask yourself if we are competing with the same MODEL as our fellow CUSA mates? Dont ask me for specifics...I'll leave that to scientists. I can tell you whether a watch works without explaining the intricate details of why a watch works. Yes or no?

Oh, and the Tulsa record people...examine those two bad years and then see how that team rebounded. Check their bowls and their wonderful bball teams during those time periods as well. you can spin numbers anyway you want them, but spare us here.

We can agree on this: (1) We need to make it easier for JUCOs/transfers to come to SMU; (2) if SMU is somehow keeping out athletes that could otherwise get into Tulsa or TCU, we need to change that...I just haven't seen that proven, yet.

I think our biggest problems, though, are that we have (1) a terrible coach who is (2) a terrible recruiter, and (3) nobody wants to play for a LOSER in (4) C-USA.

BR, you will never see it proven either way because of who holds this U by the short and curlies. Small, small steps that have been "implemented" are never, ever announced so as not to offend certain sensibilities.

This thing is a mess. Has been and will continue to be. Decisions have to be made at the highest level (not Turner) before things will change. If you dont understand that, then you dont understand this university or how it treats its athletic department. Im sorry, but that is the sad case at hand. Forget Stallion for a second.

Maybe it is that way. But how do you know? That's like choosing the half-empty glass.

Why even follow SMU football if you believe winning is futile? You already know who is going to win game before kickoff because the other team has better athletes, so it is a given. The administration makes us lose. We are doomed forever.

If that is the case, we all should just hang it up and never have any hope until the adminstration calls and tells us those ghost-like restrictions have been lifted, right?

Serious question: Could it be that recruits choose other schools because they don't like the history of losing at SMU?

And BR, I respect your opinions and thoughts. We just are in a tough, tough scenario here at SMU. There is literally not another like it in college football period, end of story. So much is against us and i am curious if we can overcome the thing WE PUT AGAINST OURSELVES IN OUR OWN HOUSE before even competing with our opponents. Its pretty freaking sad.

BR, this is the only time I will ever say this on a PF.com message board...I dont know anything for certain because who can know anything for absolute certain.

That being said, I'd bet my life and everything I own that I have a pretty damn good understanding of what im talking about. You want to PM, meet and have a beer, we can chat about stuff. I dont hide behind obscure handles on this board. I am very easy to find.

To me, the whole Stallion argument is like blaming the country club because they don't sell the right golf balls, because surely it is the golf balls that are causing you to hook them and miss putts and shoot over a hundred. "Damn golf balls. If only we had Titleist balls. See you tomorrow, same time, same place."

Why even play golf?

I think that is the exact question being asked...why continue on with this monster? From the dwindling faithful.
