I was lead to believe from those "expert insiders" on this board that Bennett is TOAST. Orsini indicates in this article that he has yet to make the decision. I can't wait to hear from those "expert insiders" what the "real" decision is? :? :? :?

oh come on, nothing has ever been more obvious. those quotes tell you all you need to know. Even if Orsini wanted to, we cant keep Bennett now, all the doubt and speculation alone makes him a lame duck. The only way you could keep bennett now is to actually give him a contract extension. otherwise he has zero ability to recruit. Its so over its not even funny.

Obviously you didn't READ the article in which Orsine STATES that he has NOT made a decision. To me the decision has been obvious since we BEAT North Texas, but he claims not to have made it, which contradicts what some "expert INSIDERS" have claimed was made 3 weeks ago!

I read it. Now you go back and read between the lines. You know coach speak? Well Orsini gave you AD speak about the heat of the moment, but he also told you all you needed to know.

How 'bout two bits from a novice outsider? Bennett is toast. I feel pretty safe out on this limb, but you stay near the tree.

The time, place and circumstances of this "interview" were not appropriate for announcing any change. Frankly, I was amazed his comments were so candid. The only question left is when he schedules the press conference.

I would think, it will just be a press release?

Make the announcement asap, but let him finish out the season!

Orsini has made up his mind. He knew he was going to have to get a new coach after 1) the pathetic display at home against Texas Tech, 2) the shoot out with a lesser talented N. Texas team, and 3) the horendous display against Ark. St. It is possible Orisini has a coach in mind that is currently coaching so he may delay his decision another week or two. We know one thing.....Bennett will not coach at SMU next year. That was obvious after the first 3 weeks of the season.

It seems to me that he's saying that he will "do the best thing [he] can for the program now and in the future."

While "he had not made a decision on Bennett's future and declined to give a timeline", if he had made a decision, wouldn't he be obligated to say what it was? Last night was not the right time to say that PB was fired, and Orsini claimed that he "has learned not to make major decisions "like this that affect a lot of people" in the heat of the moment."

He's more mature than he was when he fired the UCF coach? It will happen Monday or sometime soon. All season, it's been clear that PB was going to be let go if SMU didn't reach a bowl.

Orsini said he hurt for the team, the coaching staff and the fans.

"This isn't the time or the place to make that decision," he said. "I want to make the right one for SMU."

The AD is making this decision, which will be a long term one for the school, at the right time. Not when we demand it.

Everyone, put down the ropes.
