It is total BS that Bennetts contract would have a buyout at this point. With all of the extensions that Copeland gave him and the fact that nothing regarding the Mustangs performance on the field is any better now than it was when he was brought in Bennetts salary has been the biggest waste of money in the history of SMU athletics.

Yeah well compare that to the waste of paying ole "Big Name" Bowden or whoever 1.4 mil/yr if our beloved trustees don't put the model on at least the same level as Wake Forest or Boston College beforehand.

All SMU Coaches including Bobby Collins have been bought out-that is how it's done. Bennett has a contract to be Coach for what 2 more years-its a breach of contract on SMU's part to remove him unless for contractually cause so there is a need for a buyout-plus there will be releases so no one can file a lawsuit for whatever reason contractual or for a myriad of other employment related issues. Almost universally, even if there are NCAA violations, a university will have a buyout clause to ensure silence or cooperation as the case may be. Quite frankly Bobby Collins was bought out to save the Board of Govenors' [deleted]. There was no excuse or justification for a buyout in his case.

Do we know that Bennett's contract was not reworked last year to include some performance clauses to let him stay one more year?
