Inquiring Minds Want to Know

What I don't get is PB coaching out the season. Does this mean Steve-O has absolutely no faith in Burns or the DC to run the thing for November? Or, does it mean he likes PB a lot?

What do ya'll think?

Somehow allowing him to maintain some shred of dignity?

or

Trying to make the man work for part of the payout?

Honestly, I don't think any alternative is better than the current situation.

Decent thing to do, thank him for his service and reward him with the option to coach the remaining games if he would like. Shows that you still have the faith in him to run your program the way you want it, and it also allows Bennett and his staff to showcase themselves for other employment opportunities.

The job of Head Coach is more than winning or losing. The Goal is gone but there is still much to learn from the game of life. Do you fire a Professor at mid-term? These kids chose Phil and he chose them-its not like SMU can make a late run for the American League Pennant. The players obviously have not quit on Bennett despite 3 heart crushing losses at the buzzer. It wouldn't make much of a difference anyway. The status quo in this situation is the preferrable course.

I personally think the fact the kids played so hard yesterday may have played a part in keeping him the rest of the season. If you remember, Cavan was fired with two games to play and they won one of the games and COULD have beat UNC in the last game.

this SMU team is capable of beating every team remaining on the schedule...the talent gap isn't that wide...Bennett at head coach gives them the best chance of winning and what purpose is served by having someone else run this thing out?

Bennett has busted his [deleted] for this program. Not sure any of us appreciate how hard these coaches work. Too bad it didn't work out, but hopefully they will play some inspired football these last 4 games.

And we shouldn't worry about Bennett. He'll be working again soon...assuming that's what he wants to do. I would imagine with all the coaching changes coming in this off-season, someone will be looking for a defensive coordinator

i think were going to see some very interesting remaining games in the season. might see a pressure-orientated defense with nothing to lose...maybe a few trick plays too?

I see no reason not to let him play it out. I have not seen once on this board or elsewhere someone say anything but positive about his integrity, etc. He will continue to work with the kids, and hopefully inspire them to keep their chins up and perform for the new coach.
