The only threads relevant at this time are 1) who the next coach will be next year 2) why was Bennett allowed to stay for 6 seasons without success, and 3) the reasons for SMU's pathetic football program aside from half-rear coaching.
You can't get better analysis than that.
He might not have said it correctly, but we won't be getting any commits while everyone and their brother is pretty assured our head coach won't be coming back.
Don't be so sure about that. First, he hasn't committed. Second, if he's smart and evaluates properly whoever succeeds Bennett, then he may be open-minded about it. Third, he hasn't told us no thanks, either -- from what I can tell. We don't know. Figure roughly 2 months between the new coach starting and signing day. We're up against some very good programs, but the good recruiters find a way. I'm not dismissing our chances.
Thats the point I am trying to make in my original post. If everyone thinks Bennett is getting fired, we should not expect any commits until our coaching situation has been cleared up.

Icon,
I agree with you. I was more referring to those who said he's not coming here.
No one knows that, except for Gray.
So I'm taking the approach:
"Don't assume you're out of it until you are told you are out of it.''

This is pretty telling: "The last trip is still up for grabs. It might be Miami, Penn State, Kansas, Texas A&M or even SMU. Those are the 11 that I'm looking at."
He's down playing us so people don't think he's crazy. I hope like hell he wants to stay at home and be a stud while we still have a good QB (and new big name coach).

I hope it is nothing bad and he will be back and playing in no time. Losing out on your Senior season of highschool ball would be awful.
Honestly if it were to be a somewhat serious injury, it would give us a much better shot at the kid as some of the big boys would back off. Even though thats the case, I hope he is fine and back on the field in no time.

It will interesting how he or if he reacts to the new coach and what impact that will have on him really considering us. But I hope he is OK.

The only way he comes to SMU is if he gets hurt and eveybody backs off. We don't get 4 star recruits. Sorry 3 star is tops for this program.

No, but it has been a reality since DP. Perhaps a new coach can change that but don't hold your breath. In any event, we need to continue to recruit any 4 star that has any interest in us.

Never fear, since nobody is steeering the recrutiing ship right now, I have a call in to him to discuss the perks that SMU offers, such as burgers, Cheer, and hot chicks.

Don't forget to mention same-sex stalkers.
