But we still had some time on the clock. Enough time that a couple of catches gets us in field goal position to win the game for us! I still kick the field goal given our proven lack of imagination going for it on 4th and one over the previous 6 years, especially at the goal line Additionally, our offensive line is atrocious at getting a push for ANY type of run play much less a short yardage situation.

Kicking a FG at that point in the game with our situation would have been among the most bone headed things we would have ever seen.
I do agree that you have some I formation plays for just this situation. Going for one out of the shot gun is so painful it hurts my head.

I'll bet you can't name ONE time where any of Phil's teams has EVER made it going for 4th and one. No imagination + no offensive line push = NO CHANCE of making it! As soon as we PREDICTABLY failed to make it, YOU KNEW that the game was over!

About this 'Should PB have kicked a FG or gone for a TD debate'
Of course he should have gone for the TD.
People are NOW saying PB should break out all the trick plays and play wide open/loose because its over for him...please...his career at SMU was OVER before that team landed in Tulsa.
Maybe PB was out-thinking many here and starting this approach a little early.
Debate the play-calling all you want, but not the decision to Go For It...

Tommy Morstead, without hesitation. He is often SMU's only defense (P) and at times its only consistent offensive threat (K).

Stallion wrote:Thomas Morestead had a greater effect on yesterday's game than just about any player on either team. Tulsa started their drives at what their own 17 yard line(after the last one started at the 1 it may have been less). SMU started their drives well upfield because of field position and turnovers. 3 kicks inside the 20. It was a Classic field position game and Morestead is a real weapon.
Morstead was terrific yesterday, but without Damon Hurst, Youri Yenga, Devin Lowery (hmmmm .... 3 defensive guys) or Justin Willis, there's no last-second drive to be criticized.
Season MVP is Willis, easily. He has kept us in some games almost single-handedly.

Considering that nearly everyone so far has misspelled Thomas Morstead's name "Morestead" maybe he shouldn't be the team's MVP...or maybe it is just another indicator of the terrible situation our program is in...
