1) Would be the only black HC in Texas CUSA, and pretty much the entire region south of Kansas and west of Mississippi. That right there separates us from the pack in recruiting. You can't tell me that wouldn't immediately put us on a lot of player's radars right away.
2) There are a lot of good candidates out there, chomping at the bit. Guys from Turner Gill to Joker Phillips to Charlie Strong to Tyrone Nix to Mike London to Kevin Sumlin.

Please, let us not go down this road. The idea is to find the coach that will make an impact and get the program going.
Ethnicity should not be the basis as to why we hire a coach. Unfortunately, the PC monsters have made it so.
If it's Turner Gil, fine
If it's Glen Mason, fine

I'd just as soon we hire the guy best qualified for the job. I happen to think Turner Gill is one of the better qualified candidates.

Wasn't this the thinking with Tubbs?
Hire the best qualified who's available, regardless of race.

Yes. We as a nation need to get over the practice of judging a person by the color of his or her skin. Celebrate unity -- what is common in each of us -- not diversity.
Hire the best man for the job. Period. If he's fat, cool. If he's skinny, cool. If he's green, blue, black, red, yellow, white, turquoise -- cool.

I'm not syaing we should do it to be progressive. I'm saying we should do it, because it could separate us from the pack. I think there are a lot of black players and families that would give SMU a look because of this, when they wouldn't have in the first place.
As for Tubbs, it was different. There are plenty of black basketball coaches. There are six in D-1 football.
