The guy turned Northwestern around on a dime before having problems with prostitutes and sexual harrassment at Colorado. Anyone think, he might be a candidate for us? Obviously has some politically incorrect baggage.

i see it as a definate possibility. Steve-O already proved hes not afraid of taking a risk with a guy like Gary Barnet. See: George O'Leary and the Notre Dame scandal

Would put him number two behind Bowden.
1)Has turned a major loser with Academic restrictions around to the point where they won the Big Ten and went to Bowl games at Northwestern. This is major. It is impossible to win at Northwestern and he did.
2)Colorado was in shambles when he took over there and won the Big 12 a few times and had them in the national title picture in 2001. Again, in his two HC stops, he has taken teams that are down and made them winners.
3)Due to his time at Colorado both under McCartney and when he was the head coach, has recruited Texas.
4)Great with the media.

dont forget how he took the Buffs to the Big12 title game the same year as the stripper fiasco. he knows how to handle pressure and keep players' composure

Barnet can coach, there is no doubt he can win at a school like SMU. He won at NORTHWESTERN!!! He didn't just win games, he won the big 10 when it was the best conference in football, he whooped Notre Dame. He is questionable in personality, my best friend was recruited and played for him at NU and said great coach, bad person. However, he strongly recommends him as a turn around coach. WE have to consider this guy, he won at the school most similar to us in terms of academic restrictions.

I don't see how you cannot look at this guy. He is clearly a good coach. my only question, can he recruit without the shady stuff?

The stuff at colorado was more players taking recruits to parties and things getting out of hand. Hard for a coach to have much control over what 19 or 20 year old college kids do on a Saturday night. And if the coach does say, take out these recruits and show them a good time, I think he would have that in common with every other college head coach.

Could we just set him up an account at the Mens' Club?

He should be #1 on our list.

Neuhisel is again not a guy we want for the reason that he has killed two proud programs. Talk to any Washington or Colorado Alumni and ask them about him. His teams got worse every year at Colorado and then he bolted on them to take the Washington Job. Left them with a lack of talent and recruiting violations. Did a good job at Washington but he is a horrible judge of talent. They are still suffering from the awful job of player evaluation with regards to recruiting when at Washington. Being able to evaulate talent and turn a program around is what we need in a head coach. Slick Rick is the exact opposite of that. Would be a horrible fit IMHO.

I agree totally with Dwan-I generally leave him off the list because of NCAA/Other issues but as far as picking a Coach-he's be a great choice. I'd expect he could do better.

I'd kick in for a Men's Club slush fund. Hell, I may do it anyway...Barnett or not.

If Barnett was able to leverage the granola girls in Boulder to bring in recruits he will be unstoppable using the sorority girls at SMU.
Sounds like someone who might really be able to take full advantage of SMU's top attribute.
