Is CUSA still a possibility?

Post by PonySnob »

Now that it looks like SMU will not have a single win this season, is there still a realistic shot at getting asked to join CUSA?

Of course it's still a possibility.

The conference is looking at the Dallas market and the future of SMU football, not whether or not the Ponies are winning today. Think about it from the C-USA perspective. Regardless of whether SMU goes 0-12 or 12-0 this year, it means nothing to C-USA. But if we can convince C-USA that the team will show great improvement in the next couple of years -- and that seems likely, given the caliber of athlete waiting through a redshirt year, and considering the caliber of recruits headed this way in the fall -- then that's what league officials will consider when deciding whether to extend a bid.

And based on that criteria, I kind of like SMU's chances.

Snob are you serious?

Having a bad football team is not a hinderence to getting into C-USA, it's a requirement. Memphis, UAB, South Florida, ECU - all leftovers both on the field and off.

The only reason Louisville, TCU, and USM are good are because these schools got organized SOMEBODY was going to rise to the top.
