admissions

Postby Pony Soup » Mon Oct 29, 2007 10:47 pm

watching the press conference...Steve O is discussing admissions and commenting on the fact that he would not ask SMU to lower its admission standards.

Given the trends that the U has seen over the past 6-8 years in the quality of the applicant pool & and incoming classes, this statement is just funny. Sure, we need room to work for the athletic programs. Overall, however, if Steve O can take us where he says he wants to go, the admissions standards will take care of themselves. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to get into SMU if we had a top notch athletic program? I bet the likes of most clowns on this board couldn't get in again right now, let alone then...

Regardless, I digress. We have been here at this crossroads before - too recently and too often, really. I really think Orsini is committed here to taking advantage of the opportunity this time around by making another great hire. And so, if Darth would allow me, I would like to be one of the first to drink from Orsini's Kool-Aid fountain on the blvd this Nov 10. Let's hope for a good turn out to show the candidates we support this team and let's go get ourselves some wins to finish out this year.

Go Mustangs.

It might be proper for you to refrain from belittling fellow alums who have a degree(s) from this university and worked very hard to earn it/them.

Again, the elitist New Yorker surfaces with a comment that creates more angst than necessary.

If you had kept that garbage out of the post, then it would have been a good post. Instead, you blew it.

When will New Yorkers ever get it? Probably never.

Hey Skippy...change your name. It's irrelevant.

A) I am no Yankee

B) My comments about the quality of the applicant pool/incoming classes are true. They have continued to improve because the U has committed to continuing to improve itself. This actually improves the values of all of our degrees over time. I do not belittle anyone, as you just did to me, but only comment that, as time has passed, the average admitted student has improved and those who got in as recently as 5 years ago may not get in today.

I have more than one degree from SMU and continue to benefit from the improved perception that past grads continue to enjoy as we improve our image each year. The point being, as hard as it is now, can you imagine how difficult it would be to get in if we had top 25 teams in fb and bb?

What's in a name? I don't believe the db allows for a change in u/n. I That being said, I think yours may be irrelevant given that you admittedly dont live in OC.

Myself included, General. All in good fun - don't take yourself so seriously. The entire post was meant to be complimentary of the Hilltop's efforts and progress.

Had I wanted to belittle someone, I would take your approach and call them out directly, generally attack them, and make sick generalizations.

Enough on this, no reason to take away from the fact I think we are making good progress and should continue, as it continues to give back to those of us who hang degrees from SMU on the wall

OK, as long as we understand each other. I'm still working tonight so maybe my frustration is building because I need a diversion and come over here and then get easily irked.

Hell, I just want us freakin' win! I'm tired of this crap.

You and me both, my friend! A couple of wins could really ease the tension around here!! I never mean any disrespect to fellow stangs - we are all in this together and it has just been a long hard road... now we have a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I hope Steve O can get us to the promise land...
