From short yardage plays just to gain 1 yard where we just run right up the middle with no imaginative playcalling (I guess Bennett and Burns never watch the pros and saw Brady's playfake then toss to Vrabel, a play even the pro defenses can't defend even though they are aware of it, just once I would like to see Willis pass to Chase!)
We also use the same defensive players and the same gameplans though it obviously wasn't working, then look at what happened at Tulsa when the coaches were FORCED to play differant players due to injuries, and we got the best results of the season.
I think the coaches have been part stubborn, and part clueless, and a new coach with a real understanding of football and how the game is played can change this program around in little time. Granted, we won't compete with Top 25 teams in the next few years, but we can darn sure compete in Conf USA.
Another poster comparing us to an actual football team. Stop making comparisons. We can't block and tackle, so we have to do things people think are crazy. One yard, we should be able to do whatever, but we can't! TU sucked, they were at home and sucked. C'mon man, get real!

Yes I graduated from SMU in 1979 and am comimg up on having had season tickets for football and basketball for almost 30 years. I give to the Mustang Club every year and I have a spot on the Boulevard. If you would have been here 25 years ago like you said and couldn't get in because of grades, all I have say is WOW. We took Jerry Ball.
SMU needs to change its model, we need to get better players and yes we do need a better coach. But I will never boo our coaches or our players. I know that they are busting thier [deleted].
I too do not care for your mother jokes. It is alright for us give each other a hard time but try and do it with a little class.
As far as players not wanting to be here, fine go find some place better.
This may be the most that I have ever typed in one post. Sure wish that we had spell check.
All I can say is practice what you preach, and Jery Ball also go paid? I will say it again, we have never won in the modern eran unless we cheated, so you know [deleted] about winning and never will unless you exercise your season ticket holding [deleted] in some other form or fashion. I apologized once for the mother jokes, but now screw you and your mother!

Sweetlady, I usually do not talk sports with women, my wife broke me of that when she ask what inning we were in several years ago at a football game. Where do you want me to start? let's see, the board of regents, who could care less about the football program, but they are starting to watch because it is costing more than it is making. I could go on forever, but everyone knows the story, but to scared to say anything. I have nothing to loose, I pay my own bills, sometimes. Athletics are such a big part of universities except SMU, so the university has to be behind the program 100%, or it fails. We have no support here, read some of the post, look in the stands. We make people think we care by firing and hiring coaches, firing and hiring AD's. Our facilities, pound for pound are the best in the country, so you tell me. I say it is all to make us think they care. I say sit back and watch. Some have been watching for 20 years and I tell them, we have not had a winning record in football at SMU during the modern era. We won when we did not wear helmets and we won when we cheated, other than that every coach and every AD has lost. So you tell me what the problem is? If it was not for JWill who will the all time leading passer in touchdowns in the Houston game, we would not have anything to celebrate. I may have that wrong, but I think he tied the all-time touchdown record against TU, and should surpass it against UH, as a redshirt soph. This should tell you how much we suck as an institution regarding sports. JWill has two more years to play? We have sucked for a long time. If we were business, the board of regents and Turner would be fired, but they are not because they hang their hats on the Cox School and other academic, which I do not blame them. It is an insitution of higher learning first, but just say that and don't keep making peope think we are going to be a top 50 team. It aint happening unless you want to do what the top 50 teams do. None of the places Orsini went are top 50 teams, they are competitive. But why did he leave? Enough!
Thank you for clearing it up for me...and I am not surprised by anything I have heard. I have a personal interest here and he plays football for SMU. I am very concerned about this whole thing. He loves football...and I do feel there is always room for improvement...especially in a game. He graded himself at a C this past weekend but I thought he played a damn good game for a freshman. I hate to see when people try to break these boys down the words do hurt believe it or not. Also there are kids on the team tht are just there and could care less if they team wins or loses. I feel those are the ones that are used to losing. This team has alot of potential and the boys that want to play ball should play. This is a sport but I have always felt you have to love the game to play it. The ones tht do need to be out there making it happen...I hate the politics tht come with this sport and I see now it gets worse as my son gets to another level. The end result is a great education but some of those kids want more out of this then 1-7. Trust me I hear it all the time...I am not sure how he determines who plays the game but if it hasn't worked it needs to change. I think he is a great man and I do wish him PB the best. But I want to see my son and the team win. This favorite crap is not going to produce winners and I know for a fact majority of the team tht plays are the favorites...funny thing is the ones tht arent his favorites and tht dont kiss as$ are the ones tht want to win. THEY LOVE THE GAME AND THE SPORT. So thank you again for your insight...I am done I wish this team the best...and I hope and pray we get some dayum good Coaches tht aren't trying to pick favorites but want to play to win.

Back on topic: This happens every time a coach gets fired in any college sport. Emotions run high and players talk about quitting. At the end of the day cooler heads will prevail and players will wait to see who the next coach will be. All this talk about, "We didn't want him anyway" is overrated. Let the dust settle before anyone makes snap decisions.
I believe Orsini is the person who will take us to the next level (granted he has the last of the model issues resolved. Which he will.). He will pick a coach that our fans and our team can hang their hat on. Players spirits (even the one's that are "accustom to losing") will be renewed and will play another day.
This is the only time where message boards like this one needs to be put on timeout. Players, fans, parents, critics all have a strong opinion that is laced with emotion. Not saying anyone is wrong or right. Just saying we need to sit back and let our leader make some decisions. I think we owe Orsini that.
Everyone on this board heard rumors that Bamba was leaving when Tubbs got fired. Justin Willis was reported saying he would leave if Bennett got fired last year. Now he is telling the DMN that is is staying.
Let's find some answers first. Bennet only got fired two days ago.

Players do leave when coached get fired. Some due to the new coach making changes, some because they no their days are numbered due to the offensive and defensive schemes, but it happens all the time in every profession. We will have some players leave, face it. And this is starting over for SMU, face that, and what is sad, we have nothing to start over from.

How much longer do we have before the board of regents move in and cancel this thing we call football?
Do they need an allen wrench, or perhaps a phillips head screwdriver? I've got both in the toolbox in my truck. Should be able to tighten everything up and get them back in business.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?
Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.

So u think its over?
You can only loose money for so long, and our athletic programs can't be making any with all the loosing we have been doing. Orsini stated that we will have to raise money to pay the next HC a decent salary, if you call what some of you think 1.5 mil as decent.
maybe we should hire a handyman to follow them around to tighten everything up.

Back in the business of what? Can't be football. We have not done that in 30 years without paying players!

It is sad because nobody wants to address the real issues. Stop posting or start stating your case to the board of regents and Turner.
