Why not aim high. Petersen has done an excellent job recruiting kids to a place that majority of high school kids can't place on a map. With his recruiting skills, he can sell Dallas a lot easier than Idaho. Plus, Petersen is not taking a demotion going from the WAC to CUSA like most other conferences. He might consider this position as a stepping board to an opportunity to coach in the Big 12 or SEC. I hope he would stay at SMU forever, but we have to be realistic. At least if he is succesful, it would be easier to find a more qualified replacement (like Spurrier taking over Holtz at South Carolina). His salary would have to be generous. I know it's a longshot, but I would like to see an active, succesful coach take over instead of someone who has been out of the game for years. It's time for the SMU job to be seen as a promotion.

If you are going to take a run at a coach who currently has a job and has had success, I'd say take a run at Mike Leach at Tech. He just might be insane enough to take the job.
"It'd be nice to see Jesse Henderson break one here."

I agree, his agent should be amongst SMU's first calls. As for salary, he's making around $500K at BSU. $1M+ would have to sound interesting. jkflamebo wrote:dont think he wants to play rice every year
He's already playing SJSU and LTU every year. How's that any different?

I believe in Chris Petersen as well as the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus-I just don't expect to see them on the Hilltop anytime soon. Petersen could have just about any job he wants this year. Seriously, SMU will never get a shot at him. But I say go get him if you can.

I thought I had posted this and probably did somewhere else but last Boise game I watched on TV the analysts showed a map of all the California JCs from which the Boise players came. A large number of the team is JC. I do not think he could do that at SMU.

Hmm let's see $1.0 Million from SMU, $2.0 Million from Tennessee. Playing before 90 K fans every week. Playing before 10K fans every week. Tough choice there. Clearly, he's want to come to SMU.

Whoever came up with that saying should be put out to pasture.

Numnuts? How long did it take you to come up with that one?
If you want to talk about bottom dwellers, then talk about NMSU, ISU and Idaho. Is Rice worse than them? Then explain how any of it is even remotely relative to where Peterson will or won't coach in the future.

So he has an offer from Tennessee already? Wow, I didn't know Fulmer had been fired already!

I don't think a whole lot of folks would argue with me when I say Rice will probably beat us at home this year.
GO MUSTANGS!
FIGHT ON!

I think that Richard Sweet, former Track athlete, came up with that in the few months he was here.
