..I have seen him on several occasions at the games and practices...wouldn't he Dat be a great coach? Maybe not HC but would be helpful to SMU.

dat nyguen was a LB at TEXAS A&M and for the cowboys, retired b/c of injuries. In his 30's right now and to my knowledge no coaching experience whatsoever.

You guys REALLY think the posters on this board have a more even opinion than the people at the ticket, especially Norm? Seriously, everyone on this board (myself included) have rose-colored glasses about this program.
SMU Head Coach is a career ending job until someone comes in and makes it anything but that. People who didn't go here see that.

Actually, SMU is neither a stepping stone job (ie career builder) nor a career killer. It is a job period. Whatever the coach makes of it is what it will be. Forrest Gregg, Tom Rossley, Mike Cavan, and Phil Bennett were not established college football head coaches before they took the position so you can merely say that SMU gave them an opportunity and they failed. I am sure that if an established and successful coach took this job, he would have a career as a head coach elsewhere if things don't pan out. I am not saying this is one of the premiere jobs in the country, but I think it is errant to say that it is a career killer.

Dat's the asst linebackers coach/defensive quality control coach for the Cowboys. He was probably here because he's friends with Bennett.

I heard Norm's show today and didn't find it particularly negative. He was just stating facts -- and stated them in a way that made him sad we've had the troubles we've had. The only part I didn't agree with was his comment that we'll have trouble getting a good coach to come here. I believe Orsini will pull that off.

Ok, looking back, maybe I'm just so beat down by our team that I have the opposite of Rose-colored glasses (poop colored?)
I just think outsiders who don't care about SMU at all have a better perspective than us. They're looking at us now, where as we're looking at what we CAN be.

Also, beer goggles...

Potential coaches are looking at the whole thing. Where we are and where we will be if _______ takes the job. This is not an easy job, but it is not the graveyard our coaches have made it out to be. We may not have the model to recruit the athletes needed to go undefeated, but we certainly have enough in place to win 7/8 games a season.

Stallion rants because he thinks 7/8 games is selling SMU short. He expects us to be perenially a top 25 team.

I think we need to set reachable goals so as to not get overwhelmed in the process of accomplishing them. I look forward to the days we are winning 7-8 games a season and going to bowl games and start complaining about having to go to the NO Bowl or the FW bowl etc. Once that happens I think we should set our sights a little higher.
