SMU as an institution, needs to determine what direction it wants to go.

We need to play by the rules set out by the NCAA Div. 1 AA or go to an all academic league.

Yes, it hurts to say this but it's true. We adjust to NCAA standards or drop down.

What the faculty does not want to believe is that dropping down will hurt enrollment and donations.

Not picking but when I hear that prof's teach two classes a week, that disturbs me. I have a parent that taught at SMU for 20 years, and she was shocked when I told her.

We can play by the rules as set out by the NCAA and be successful.

Make the RIGHT choice. Invest in a good coach, have a greater variety of degree majors, open up the school to transfers that meet NCAA standards and give SMU the same tools that other school use.

WE all love our Mustangs so let's give the new coach a level playing field.

I know that this is not a popular arguement but I think it is the foundation point to SMU becoming competitive.

The militant faculty needs to be opposed and constantly opposed until the changes are made.

The faculty has nothing to do with the performance on the football field, on the basketball court, in the swimming pool, etc.

Get over it.

Having a professor teach only 2 classes per week is not an uncommon thing at major universities. In fact, at many major research institutions there are faculty that don't teach a single class.

I posted something very much like this (partly in jest) in a thread called "Come on Over to the Southland Conference" earlier this week. I was told to 'F.O.' by one frequent poster on this board. I'd like to see him tell you the same thing, George. But he doesn't have the balls to do it.

It has something to do with the caliber of athletes we bring to this school by the admitting standards that exclude a lot of good kids who could come to this school and succeed.

Not everything has to be built around Dedman College, for God's sakes.

This is an either/or situation for the faculty.

They are either for success in athletics or they are not. Their actions have shown they are not.

Oppose the Militant Faculty!!

Based upon his third sentence, I don't think Bus meant to say 1-AA in his second sentence...just a twitchy finger.

I was referring to his statement 'drop down'.

IPP: I hope you're right. I would hate to see SMU drop out of Div. 1 FBS competition, too. I want the Mustangs to be successful at that level. But let's face facts....right now SMU is not attracting crowds any better than Div. 1 FCS schools and even some Div. II schools! It's sad and pitiful.

By the way, that video of the two-legged horse is sick! I love it! Happy Halloween!

I will not dignify such comments with formal remarks. I will say this, however:

The day SMU walks away from Division IA football is the day I walk away from SMU. I did not say SMU Football; I said SMU. Period. End of story. No conditions. I meant it when it was brought up in the early 90's; I mean it now.

Thoughts from a Coog.

I dont' know about admissions there, but it seems your board is committed to D1A football. Y'all have one of the best stadiums in the country. You just need to win. I think the guy you should be looking at is Tulsa's OC. It's going to take a innovative offense to start drawing folks in.

Y'all are in the same position we were in before we hired Briles. You're at least three years away from making a run at the CUSA title, and you're going to have some 62-55 losses along the way, but there is no reason SMU cannot compete in CUSA. It's a slow process and it takes patience, but it can be done.

The point was that SMU needs to play on the same field as other Division Whatever ( Current Status) schools play on.

We need more degree programs, transfer acceptance and funds for coach and assistant coaches.

Fish or sit on the shore.

FYI - I want to fish.

I'm with you man. I was surprised by the reaction to your post, when I think that most people would have agreed with you if all you said was "Fix the effing Model damnit"
