I find it interesting to look at our staff from 1992
Turner Gill - QB Coach - current head coach at Buffalo
John Tenuta -DC - current DC at Georgia Tech, was at Ohio State
Tim Lewis - DB coach - Former Pittsburg Steelers DC/Ny Giants DC
Tom Rossley - HC - Former Green Bay Packers OC
Pretty impressive staff for a team that won 25% of its games

question why didnt any of them turn SMU around? .... same reason PB didnt... PB was great at every other school he coached at... SMU is a different animal... it's more then a coaching problem....

This is the dumbest post ive seen, save a few from Stallion.
Being a great assistant coach and being a successfull HEAD COACH are two different animals. Some coaches for whatever reason don't translate their success as assistants to HC positions.

Might it be that 92 was still under K. Pye and we faced more restrictive recruiting, etc. Also, the early years of Cavan were a continued upswing of the Rossley years. Maybe these coaches were truly hamstrung by the "Model".

being a good coordinator is completely different from being a good head coach. how many times have good coordinators failed when they are head coaches on both the college and nfl level?

my point was that time has shown that we had a pretty impressive staff that year, not that any of them should be considered for the current head coaching job.
