They get dismissed and the paper buries the rest of the story. Nutt has had two solid losing seasons and he wins with a classic Frank Broyles schedule of uber cupcakes.

There are many at SMU that remember recruiting the youngster Nutt. Not a one has a positive thing to say about the guy. I disagree that he is a good coach. I disagree that the players and lack of discipline in his program are what SMU wants. And I disagree that he is the man for us.

None of that stuff is true. It was all made up by a bunch of Haterz in Springdale where Mustain was from.

It was a total witch hunt.

Good to see that you believe that former players at SMU that recruited Nutt are liars from Springdale involved in a witch hunt. And please explain the publication of the email in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Guess some reporter just made it up as part of the witchhunt. And I guess all those criminal records are lies as well.

It's all just bad press.

Houston Nutt is a fine Christian man and anybody who says otherwise is a liar!

Well then I am a liar. I personally think that Nutt would do well at SMU for the very reasons that Ponyte dislikes him. I think he could make a brash impact, big splash, big recruits and on field wins. Then he could move on and we could follow up with a strong and steady coach.

I do not know the kids that know Nutt from recruiting days as does Ponyte so I can not comment on that. I do not have a lot of respect for him as a person, but he can turn a team around quickly.

For those of you that believe him to be a fine Christian man, maybe you need to move on to the Baylor website.

Please explain your last statement??

I think he means that Christian factions attempt to govern Baylor athletics, and apparently wield a lot of influence, and look what that's got Baylor.

We need a good coach, even if he's atheist, agnostic, or wiccan. Personally I like the last option for the evil incantations he may call down on opponents.

Baylor being a fine upstanding Christian school is supposedly looking for a new football coach. Perhaps that school would be a better fit for Nutt.

Billy Graham is a fine Christian man. I also think he would suck as our head coach. One's spirituality isn't the issue. Orsini has a far better clue as to what is the best candidate for the position. There are plenty of coaches that want a chance. SMU fits a bill for many. A new coach can expect weak competition (not a BSC conference schedule) with tremendous assets (Dallas, Texas, major media center, strong academic reputation, gorgeous girls, money, attractive campus, etc.). A perfect storm for a quick turn around. And the guy that turns around SMU looks like Knute Rockne. For many former coaches, this gives them a chance to recruit fast, make some wins (our current talent could have a winning season at this point if they were not so mistake prone) and a name for themselves and more on to m a better situation.

There are plenty of coaches out there looking for a second chance. One suspects Orsini is well aware of them. Nutt hasn't been fired and we are looking right now. Do we want to wait another month to see if Nutt is fired? And then start the hiring process? Or do we want to look now and try to improve our recruiting chances?

that picture right there shows just the kind of motivator Nutt is. He is a hands on coach that doesn't just sit on the sideline and yell through a megaphone. If any of you have ever watched an Arkansas game on tv...then you have seen Nutt on the sidelines. There isn't another coach in college football who is as animated as Nutt is. That is passion.

Listen Mister!

Do you know all the details of what transpired? I graduated from SMU in '98 and now I work for Tyson and live in Springdale. I have to live in the middle of this mess, and I can tell you, these people in Springdale are crazy! Everything you've posted is stuff that's been reported. What you don't hear are the attacks on HDN and his family. His wife is a very nice lady. We met them out to dinner one night at the catfish hole in fayetteville, and she was nothing but nice and very friendly. One of the friendliest women I've ever met. Coach nutt does not deserve any of this mess created by the springdale bunch. He was an easter seal arkansan of the year for crying out loud. GSH.

I don't like posting on message boards but here is the deal. My brother is a major booster with SMU. He told me that Nutt agent called yesterday about the job. Nutt wants the job bad!! Im so excited about this.

Okay, since I am the only one here who has experienced Houston Nutt (Been a razorback fan my entire life, 2nd favorite team) I figured I would let you know what you would get with Houston Nutt

The Good

he has lost only 1 game to a non BCS school in 9 years (UNLV, 2000)
He has a winning record against Texas
He wins the conference games he's supposed to win, generally. 8-1 vs Miss State. 6-3 vs South Carolina, 6-3 vs Ole Miss.

Considered by most to be a good recruiter
Good Motivator.

The Bad

Losing Record against Kentucky. Has a home loss to Vandy recently
Good for the occasional big conference win, but often times falls flat on his face in "big games" 0-5 combined vs Florida and Georgia. 2 embarrasments against Southern Cal

He Has never won in Baton Rouge, LA, Knoxville, TN, Athens, GA, or Gainsville Fla

Not a very good play caller. Very run happy. Often gives up and plays field position rather then passing on 3rd and 10. The saying in Arkansas is that he has 5 plays in his play book. Run Right, Run Left, Run middle, Pass and Punt

Clock management at the end of game doesnt exist for him.

Does not develop Quarterbacks. Casey [deleted] has been a joke ever since he got to Arkansas. We have at least 1 game a year where our quarterback goes 3 for 17 passing with 2 picks. Big Name quarterbacks have passed Arkansas up for fear they wont get developed properly

The Ugly: (And believe me its ugly)

He has a giant ego. Quick to take credit for wins. Once took the time after a big win to talk about what wonderful plays he called during the postgame show. At the same token he will blame players for losses. Its his fault when they win, but never his fault when they lose.

He was forced to hire an offensive coordinator 2 years ago (springdale saga) Gus Malzhan came from high school and brought 4 of the best athletes the state has ever seen with him.. Nutt was clearly not happy he was forced to hire Malzhan and made life difficult for him the entire year. It finally came to a head last year when he pulled undefeated starter Mitch Mustain, for Casey [deleted] in the South Carolina game. [deleted] led the team to 3 straight losses to close the year. Mustain has since transfered to Southern Cal. And is expected to be named the Starting QB next year. Malzhan lost his play calling duties during the Carolina game as well, and has since moved to Tulsa where he is leading the 3rd ranked offense in the country

Nutt has been accused of having inappropriate relations with a female newscaster. His Wife has physically threatened to beat a players mother with a 2X4.

In addition he has been accused of illegally recruiting players for the last several year, offering promises of money and other gifts. it is believed that this will come out when he leaves Arkansas

Nutt has gone against the fan base this year, he has taken several shots at fans during news conferences, and has made several ridiculous quotes that make no sense

Nutt has been physically threatened by fans. Fans have threatened to kill the man over message boards. A fan actually attacked him at practice one day. His kids have been threatened repeatedly at school supposedly. Fans are beginning to openly boycott games. A group of us have actually paid for banners to fly before games threatening to fire the coach. There have been fights before between fans over Houston Nutt. Some fans still love him to death, Other fans want him dead.

I have no doubt that he can lead SMU to wins. But honestly I question whether or not the man has the character to lead the mustangs. I question the mans morals, his ethics, and honestly whether or not he can lead a program to the next level

Just thought you fellas should be aware with what you are getting with Houston Nutt
