Re: Gimme a BreakTo those who are responding to these new posters who are suddenly sooo upset, all I can say is that when you get up to 300-400 posts, you newbies might, might get some credibility on this board, but right now your opinion means nothing to me. Even if Bennett royally screws up the rest of the year, I'm not going to start calling for his job. I am willing to let him redshirt who he wants to redshirt, start who he wants to start, use whomever he wants to use to punt. We don't know all the details that he knows. For example Rushbrook is so far our only receiver who is doing anything. So let's put him back to punt and when he gets roughed and his ankle broken or knee blown, we'll hear, why'd you use your best receiver to punt? This is a year of growing, hopefully next year will be a year of results. Let's start by beating SJS.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Gimme a BreakNot that I want to make a habbit of defending PK (just kidding PK), but Bartel was holding the ball low when he got it stripped; he's supposed to hold it up near his chest. Also, he threw a pic into tight double coverage where both the defenders were considerably bigger than our receiver (can't remember if it was Rushbrook or Griffin). Finally, (as Bartel was quoted as saying in The Dallas Morning News, he should have ran for the first down instead of drilling the ball into KK's knees. He may not have made the first down, but 4th and 1 is doable, 4th and 5 is not.
So no, he didn't have a perfect game. However, Coach Bennett DID say today that Bartel had a "pretty good game within the system." Some of the other things I don't think we've touched on yet were the 5 offsides by freshman DTs (which kept some of their drives going), Sturdivant having to play Free Safety (where he's never played before) and getting caught out of position on one of their touchdowns, and a missed assignment on the blocked punt. Anyway, not to sound like another one of the shoulda, woulda, coulda crowd – but dang it, we SHOULD have beat this team! "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: Gimme a BreakWhat was the deal with all of those offsides on the defense? At least one looked like it should have been on UTEP.
I'll let PK form the run Bartel out of town club.
Re: Gimme a BreakBetter a habbit than a hobbit.

Re: Gimme a BreakNacho...man your reading comprehension isn't any better than those guys that had trouble with PPP's post. My point was and is that JustAFriend should not be beating up on other players to make his friend Richard look better. Richard needs to stand upon his own performance, period. Richard is working hard and doing his best like the rest of the team, but like the rest of the team he has room for improvement. No where did I say he needs to go. SMU's first president, Robert S. Re: Gimme a BreakDid it appear to anyone else that we were getting penalized a lot more than we have previously this season? I'm not saying we lost because of the refs, I'm just curious what could cause a team that doesn't seem to get that many penalties suddenly start getting them, or did it just appear that way because I wasn't paying close enough attention previously?

Re: Gimme a BreakPK I thought you ripped him pretty good for no apparent reason. So what if a QB who is in the middle of a collapsing pocket, who is getting ready to throw gets the ball slapped from his hand. It's a football game. Those things happen. You want to make a big deal out of it to suit your own misguided needs. I think it was a cheap shot on your part. Bartel is playing as well as his supporting cast will allow.
Re: Gimme a BreakPK's not ripping anyone. He's simply pointing out what he saw and what Coach Bennett said. Bartel has been coached to protect the ball by keeping it up near his chest (where it's harder to swat away) when he drops back.
It was only one teeny mistake, but cumulative with everything else, those errors are hard to overcome. Don't put a negative spin on what he says; PK would probably cut off his right arm if he thought it'd give us a winning season. So don't persecute the man. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. I'm not losing sleep over it." -- David Miller
Re: Gimme a BreakRelax, football fans, it may get worse before it gets better. You got what it takes to get it right? Anybody can [deleted] and moan and place blame. Show some guts and a little loyalty for once. I hope some of you whiners are not around when the payoff comes.
Re: Gimme a BreakIf you want to think I ripped him...fine, then so be it. My pointing out a simple fact of what happened in the game was a response to Bartel's friend, JustAFriend, "ripping" KK for having the ball stripped while being tackled after running 55 yards. This is not the first time JAF has ripped other players in defense of his friend. Most of this team, including Bartel, is playing as well as their supporting cast will allow them. I don't "rip" players individually and certainly not by name. My pointing out that Bartel had the ball stripped on him as well was just a fact...sh*t happens in games all the time...most of the time because the other team's defense made a good play. Why don't you go rag on JustAFriend for ripping a warrior like KK. SMU's first president, Robert S. Re: Gimme a BreakHey, EastStang...you think having 576 posts is what qualifies you to have an opinion on this board? Shut the F@#% up, you jerk...your opinion is meaningless to me...you don't even make sense have the friggin' time.
Some of us have jobs that don't allow us to donate our every waking moment to this board like you...grow up and get a life!
