Re: Gimme a BreakWhat gets me is, we didn't force a single turnover. UTEP was last in the nation in turnovers, including 20 fumbles already this year. OUCH.
Re: Gimme a BreakWow, here we go again, I am "ripping" other players to make Richard look good. no, I pointed out the two most significant reasons we lost the game. I also mentioned that the punt got blocked, is that bad to say too? orrect me if I am wrong, but a back as seasoned as KK should not fumble that ball. Yes Richard fumbled, and I even said he didnt play a perfect game. But there are still people who want to find a way to blame him for the loss. I realize that the QB is always the hero or the goat, but I am not "ripping a warrior like KK" to make Richard look good. Everyone knows what KK brings to the team, and I think he is a good back. But thats a huge play completely for nothing. And everyone says the offense didnt move the ball, well maybe they didnt just run the field, but they were in position to take advantage of field position, and 24 points, when you trade the safety for the touchdown, is enough to win, especially against UTEP. Even Bennett criticized Keylon's fumble, as well as Richard's and I agree with him, but which do you think is more significant? It doesnt matter who actually fumbles on the 1 yard line, the fact remains that was a huge play. I know from very early posts I earned the response that I am getting from most of you, but when I post, give me the benefit of the doubt and read it objectively. I am not here to bash players and make people look bad, and part of what i said was due to circumstances I would rather not mention, but as it stands, the offense, all of it, was good enough to win. Special teams and turnovers lost the game, I just said some were more costly than others...
Re: Gimme a BreakEasy, Nacho! There's more than you might think! "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
Re: Gimme a BreakTwo comments on this thread. Eaststang..if number of posts(300-400 according to you) is required for possible credibility in your opinion, then I question your credibility. There are people posting with in excess of a 1000 posts and they lack total credibility as far as I'm concerned.Credibility should be based on the content,NOT the number of posts. I think some of the new blood comments are to close to the truth for you "established" members to stomach or provide logical rebuttal. Peruna..Bartel threw into double coverage to the smallest player on the team,Blake Warren, maybe 5-6, 160lbs.Super dumb move considering size of DB's and speed of pass.If he'd have made the pass, everybody would be talking about what a great play he made and how we won the game.I watched top QB's Saturday miss the same type of play.Bartels there for the season and if people will get out of his face he'll improve with every game.He executed for the better part what he was given.
Re: Gimme a BreakBartel is very talented. He also has braincramps every now and then. Sorry to break big news here, but there's not one person among us who doesn't.
With that said, I saw two major flaws in his game Saturday. One was already touched on: he had the ball below waist level in one hand when it was stripped. You're taught in Pop Warner ball to keep the ball up at you chest, and when you're running around in traffic, keep two hands on the thing before you throw it. The second was his throwing motion. Remember last year when Tate Wallis had a bunch of passes picked off - by defensive linemen? The theory was that it was because he was throwing essentially sidearm. Well, I watched Bartel specifically Saturday, in warm-ups and in the game, and that's what he was doing some of the time, too. I know if you have a big arm, it's tempting to heave a moonshot downfield and let your receivers go get it. That ain't gonna work here, until we sign a few 6'5" receivers. Bartel, you're too talented for that. Hold the ball up, throw OVER THE TOP and drill the damn thing in there. None of this lob BS. Bury that thing between a guy's ribs. Might cut down on drops, too. Re: Gimme a BreakJustAFriend, Nacho was big enough to apologize to me and I will likewise apologize to you. I still believe you should watch what you are saying more carefully. This following statement certainly could be considered a rip..."You know you people all wanna jump the QB anytime there's a loss, but that was not the problem the other night. Look at your little workhorse who dropped the ball, literally, and the game. BTW, who was jumping the QB for the lost?
As for the punter, he didn't have a chance on that blocked punt...not because he was slow, but because the guy coming in to block it came in untouched. That 7 point swing was just as devastating as KK's fumble. Any turnover, fumble or int, hurts the cause. As I said, praise Richard all you want...just don't knock the other players in the process. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Gimme a BreakRe-reading that statement, I can easily see your argument, and like I said, I wrote that post while influenced by other circumstances. I also can apologize for my wording in my post. I do tend to let things go freely sometimes. As for who was blaming the QB, I have seen several post-game posts about "Bartel Sucks, put in Phillips, yada yada. I just find humor in the turnaround every year. most say don't throw a freshman in there, until we lose some close ones and then its suddenly the answer to throw Phillips in there. Just humorous. Anyways, sorry for the wording, and ripping...
Re: Gimme a BreakI feel like fbdad is always talking about me when he talks about certain 1000+ posters lacking credibility.
I just want to say, I'm hurt ![]()
