Its also where you focus your recruiting. If you recruited a solid offensive line with plenty of depth, you could win more games with less game breaking talent. Note all the losses caused by failure to score or get a first down on 4th and 1. If you could recruit better defensive players you could stop the other team from scoring 40 points a game. We clearly have band aids on the entire defensive side of the ball. Players are playing early at positions they were not recruited to play. Was that because the players we wanted weren't admitted, or weren't recruited, or just went elsewhere? That's the obvious question facing the powers that be. Recruiting cures a lot of ills. No doubt about it. And to echo the BUS school of thought, the more big uglies you have the more games you're going to win. With some stronger offensive line play, we would have about 10 more wins in the last three years. Think Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, Marshall, ASU, UNT, TCU, ECU, UH, Tulane and you get the picture. And going to three bowls in a row would have meant better recruiting.

Ya I guess he was "no smart enough". The irony is just unbelievable.
Another spell checker? Damn stay off the board and go to class, obviously you did not play the game and do not play the game, because the football team is at practice now. Another freaking spell checker. This board is full of spell checkers. No wonder we loose games, we have to many spell checkers. I want all the names of numbers of spell checkers. I am gonna kick some spell checker butt.
I called you out because what YOU said about AA is gutless and unfounded.
It is pretty funny that you are calling him out for being dumb and yet you can't even take the time to properly spell words everyone learned in 3rd-4th grade ("loose" "no smart enough")

Do you think this is NORMAL Pal to give up 20 over 100 yard performances in 20 games? ? How about 4 performances over 200 yards? Does this rekindle any lost memories of SMU getting torched by great individual performances? Do you actually watch SMU play Football. Does SMU have 1/3 of these types of performances during the last 2 years. This is a defense that is Physically mismatched against its quality opponents. By the way I believe each and every person on that list except maybe Davis from Tulane either was, is or most certainly going to be an All-Conference player in his conference.
All I've got to say is that you don't have to be a 3-star athlete to know how to tackle someone. You don't have to be Jonathan Zenon to know how to give appropriate cushions. I absolutely DON'T think this is normal..at all...but it's not surprising to me one bit when I see the football fundamental/knowledge that I see displayed at the games. You'd have to really try not to catch for 100 yards against SMU because they give you 5-6 yard cushions all the time...unless of course, your RB is having a 300+ yard game...then sub-100 might be understandable. I just can't believe you can look on the football field and not see that we could do better (and meet our program goals) with what we already have. I can't believe you can look at Bennett's product and say "that's the best it could have been". If we get to a point where our players are playing their butts off against Tech AND we are displaying better fundamentals/coaching creativity than 99.9% of HS Football programs AND we are still losing...then maybe I'll be willing to whine about other athletes and why we don't have them too. As it is now, even with poor football displays at times, we were a 6-win team last year and were very close to being a 4-5 win team at this point this season. I think a decent (not great) coach would have got us into a bowl game last year and would've kept us in bowl contention up to this point. I'm not convinced having Alridge as our RB would make the same difference.

It is pretty funny that you are calling him out for being dumb and yet you can't even take the time to properly spell words everyone learned in 3rd-4th grade ("loose" "no smart enough") I was accepted to SMU and Tulane but could not attend either because my father died and I have to basically pay my way through school. And so what if I do not play in the games? Since when was playing Division 1a football a prerequisite for being able to talk about it?
Read my post [deleted]. Nobody said he was dumb. I know the kid! He could not get into SMU! That is not dumb on his part, but dumb on the part of SMU. And for your information I skipped 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, so I could play football in middle school early. So I missed learning how to spell loose (lose) whatever, and my hands are so big I hit every key on this damn keyboard everytime I try to type something.

Well, what does the fact that he's posting while the football team is practicing have to do with anything BigDaddy? And so what if he's never played football?
It just really detracts from your arguments when you constantly spell lose "loose," even though we've corrected/made fun of you about 10 times about that.

So I can't spell, it detracts for your argument as well. My fingers are probably the size of your arm littler fellow, so lets move on to more important things than my spelling/typing/grammer, whatever.

Stallion, lets look at another rushing defense bottom-dweller: Nebraska. What's the problem with its model? That it didn't recruit stud athletes like Anthony Alridge? Is the reason they're 33 teams worse than SMU as far as rush defense goes because its academic standards are WAY too high? That it doesn't have enough institutional support? What's your take on that? It lets a lot of people off the hook when the only thing you bemoan is the mediocre recruiting.

You might want to try proof reading there bigdaddy. You can always hit the backspace button, it's usually larger than the other keys.
Bottom line, if you're going to rag on a kid's intellect, you really shouldn't misspell his name.
If you've got his report cards, send them in. Something tells me you don't and that you don't have the first clue what you're talking about. Just a hunch. Anyway, thank you, and please pass along out thanks to Phil for the bulletin board material.

In case there was any wonder as to what Bennett said or meant:
While Alridge always considered himself a football player who happened to run track in high school, not everybody agreed.
Teams wondered how they might use Alridge and his sprinter's speed.
He had some contact with Big 12 and Southeastern Conference schools. Alridge said he would have loved to stay close to home and attend SMU. He even made an unofficial visit as a junior. But he never was offered a scholarship.
Bennett said he and his staff didn't ignore Alridge. He saw the talent, too.
The problem was SMU's high academic standards
"We were recruiting him, and we couldn't get him in school," Bennett said this week. "Every time I play him, it just magnifies. He's very explosive."

You are not only a liar, but you are a coward too.
You say you have a young man's report cards, call him stupid and then can't even spell his name or simple words.
To every other pony fan: good luck and hope any of you making the trip enjoy your time at UH.
