FordtoTolbert wrote:Right..so why risk more "image issues" and undue microspoping by hiring guys with issues? Barnett's issues at UC resulted in a "major infraction / violation", with 86+ football players involved in some sort of meal card / fees scam...Ricky N is no choir boy and Bowben carries a "slezzy slicky" image for a variety of reasons. Why upgrade EVERTYTHING as you say and then bring in a coach who doesn't mesh with that strategy / vision? It is not worht it....yes, losing sucks, but let's be real here, wacky [deleted] wild eyed desperation usually results in long periods of crap, as you know.
News flash: Most upper level coaches have issues. Most successful people do. John F. Kennedy was an adulterer. Who cares. Hire the best coach. White, Black, or other. Clean image, dirty image, whatever. Just don't go overboard with the rules violations and don't be too immoral in public.

I agree, winning two Big Ten titles at Northwestern.....man, it's hard to argue that SMU is a bigger challenge than that. He is really the perfect fit. Big 12 recruiting ties, national name...and he was pretty to loyal to Northwestern. He could have bolted after 96 for better jobs but stayed.

Does not add up for a program with a big old giant juicy scarlet DP on it's chest. Barnett and his "sex, drugs, rock and roll sign on the dotted line, son" past, plus the Bobby Knight "sit back and enjoy it" mentality..does not make sense. What did Bowden do, hose down a board members 18 year old daughter?? Doesn't Rick N have somewhat of a checkered past? You might say, "Well, which coach / school doesn't!?!"....I think we need a stud recruiter, organizer, game day magician without a closet full of crap....just my 2 cents. Long Live Ray Morrison.
We will not bring in a HC with a storied past, I can assure you that. Board of whatever will not approve it! Michael Haywood OC at ND is our man.

Never quote a hs coach as a source for this search. The coaching rumor mill is one of the wild going on out there. The success ratio is about 33 percent.

Get Over It! Most of the Good Coaches who are available have some type of blemish on their record.
Yea, like getting beat by someone they should not have, but blemish in regards to morals and values, SMU aint having it. The people with the money are gunshy and will be for the next 20 years. Why do you think the academics requirements were changed? It is called exclusion, for those of you who do not work for companies that have trainings on inclusion. SMU is trying to keep out a certain type of student, and they be damned if they hire a coach with past issues.

This is a guy who is penciled in as the DB coach if Haywood or Mason gets the job. Played for Mason at Minn. My [deleted] is legit. I do not listen to rumor mills, this guy had too much info not to believe him, as well as a good college player for Mason and damn good HS coach. What is the success ratio of this board? How many of you picked PB?

Folks, I think I have a good idea on Bigdaddy's source.
All I'm going to tell you is that he is an assistant football coach in the
Lewisville Independent School District. Not going to say where. But here are the high schools in the LISD
Flower Mound Marcus
Flower Mound
Hebron
The Colony
Lewisville
And this guy did play for Mason at Minnesota.
