How do you set your avatar?

I've been playing around with my profile but the avatar mystery alludes me. I hope this doesn't involve nakedness, deserts, animals spirits and peyote...I DO have to go to work sometime next week.

it may be for new people, because i dont have it either. here is what i see on the bottom part of the page:
