Let's be fairO. k., I am the first to deride any and all pollyannas who claim to see a light at the end of the tunnel when it's probably an oncoming train. But let's be fair, Three losses by a total of eight points and all three games should now be in the win column. Once we learn how to keep beating ourselves, maybe we can salvage something out of this already dismal season.
Re: Let's be fairAt some point, Bennett needs to take some responsibility for our mistakes (fumbles, ints, blocked punts). We've been close, but that's not good enough. I realize the limitations of our young team, but to constantly make the same mistakes is starting to be a reflection on the quality of the coaching. I think our number one goal each week should be to not fumble. We can build from there. Baby steps.
Re: Let's be fairCoach Bennett has taken more than his share of the blame/responsibility. In my opinion, he's taken too much. Almost every time I've heard or read an interview with him, he talks about the need for his staff to coach better, and the need to put the players in a position to make the plays. Well, a lot of times they are in the right position to make plays. Coach Bennett didn't teach Kincade to fumble at the 1-yard line, and he didn't teach D.D. Lee to drop the would-be interception that hit him in the hands with nothing but wide-open space between himself and the end zone. Either one of those plays turns into an SMU touchdown, and we might well have squeezed the life out of the Miners.
Don't take this the wrong way - I'm not blaming KK or DD for the loss. They played their hearts out. But the coaches aren't the ones out there making blocks, tackles, passes and receptions. The technique being taught doesn't seem to be flawed. With more familiarity and comfort, the execution of that technique will only get better.
Re: Let's be fairExcuse me but wasn't someone bragging a few weeks ago about how many of our players stayed around all summer and worked out? If that is the case, why are they making so many mistakes now?
If steady improvement is our goal then we should beat the teams this year that we beat last year, right? Well we beat both UTEP and Nevada last year. So what happened?
Re: Let's be fairActually, we lost to Nevada last year something like 20-7, and we needed a miracle punt return to beat UTEP.

Re: Let's be fairI have said this before, when bennett came in he told the team"if ya'll had held on to the ball last year I would not be here, fumbles are mental mistakes and we will not have mental mistakes" in almost two years he has not eliminated the mental mistakes.I don't have the answer but I guess neither does bennett.
