Hasn't been as successful as Gary Barnett and at least Barnett seems more attached to his jobs.

He's better than anyone else we've gotten at this school. Geez-the Bennett hire almost sent me over the cliff. Still not my favorite or even 2nd favorite, but I can definitely see him being a good choice if my hunch that others aren't going to be as enamored with the SMU job as many think. No reason to dump on him at this point when he may be our best option later.

Fran to SMU??
November 5, 2007
As the great Ron Burgundy once said: "I'm gonna put it out there; if you like it, you can take it, if you don't, send it right back." So, here goes:
SMU will hire Dennis Franchione. As news breaks today that the A&M brass have reached a buyout agreement with Coach Fran, I am here to tell you that the affable head coach will land at SMU for the 2008 season.
Coach Fran has won everywhere he's been, including A&M, (he just hasn't won enough there). I think it makes sense to bring a guy with tremendous recruiting ties in Texas to a school that's struggled to bring in solid players. He's a coach that's proven he can win, and that's what the Mustangs need.
If I'm SMU, I get this done today. Heck I get it done yesterday.

this would confirm everything I have been told.
1)That we would be paying a million bucks plus for a coach.
2)That he would be a former heach coach who had success at a BCS school
3)The hire would be made by Homecoming

I'll tell you another thing. For all those that think that SMU is right there and just needs a push, Fran has a relationship with about 500 players in this years class AND THE 2009 Class-many may not be quite good enough for the Aggies but he would be right in line for those that could fit at SMU. There would be less disruption in recruiting than in possible any job change in NCAA football history. In fact, this would open the door to a whole new talented group of prospects RIGHT NOW. For those that think we are close. Fran might be one of the best choices for making sure we don't blow an entire recruiting class.

Ugh. He's one of the worst candidates that has been thrown out there. I hope Orsini has more sense than this. It would be the end of my association with SMU football, that is for sure.

I never said he hasn't won. Like Stallion, I think he would be better than any of our post dp coaches. However, he (Gary Barnett) accomplished more at Northwestern and Colorado than Franchione did at New Mexico, TCU, Alabama and TX A&M.

Oh man, this is killing me. My in-laws are all rabid aggies. Fran would probably be a great pickup, but I'm dying inside thinking about the ration of [deleted] I'm about to get from them lol.

I actually like the hire, and all the aggies and horny toads can eat [deleted] when we are winning.

I have to believe that Fran won't be coaching anywhere next year. Good God.

What's up with the investigation into that newsletter. I have to agree with whoever said that it sounded like a slush-fund mechanism when first reported.
