Is it just me, or is the A&M job really one of the most overrated jobs in the country. Despite the cult like loyalty of the Aggie faithful, here is a job that is dependant on how poorly that UT is doing for ny hope of success. A&M has not sniffed relevance since the late 90's and will continue to be the other team in Texas. The other problem they have is that unlike schools like Ok. State, WASU, Michigan State, Georgia Tech, and a few other schools that live in the shadow of other programs in their state, A&M has 9 other D1 schools to compete with in the state. Through in the fact that they are now having to play OU every year and this job may go become a coach killer due to its over hyped expectations of the job.

UPDATE: A&M sports information director Alan Cannon told Aggie beat writer Brian Davis that the report is not true, as far as he knows. Cannon said that Fran is in the office and acting as if it's a regular Monday. B. Davis is heading down to College Station and will continue digging on the story, but none of his sources seem to think the CBSsports.com report is right.

I guess NM hates him too. Must be doing something right. If the option is your thing Fran is your man. He had LT at TCU. McGee at A&M wouldn't give up the ball. I don't have strong feelings about him one way or the other but it was clear in watching the team this year that he was done there.

While still the HC at TCU, he went to the Heisman ceremony (as LT's guest) and wore a crimson tie. That told me all I need to know about the character of the guy. Then look at how he bolted at Bama without talking to his players first and I think you'll see a trend. (Forgot to mention his famous "hold the rope" speech where he encouraged all of the Bama players to not transfer while he was busy working the phones with the Ags.)

There is no doubt the guy is a turd and has the loyalty of a $2 hooker. Kind of reminds me of the South Park episode where they had to vote on a new mascot between a turd sandwich and a big [deleted] since those were the only two politically correct names left after animal, indian, etc. names were found to be insensitive. No doubt whatever candidate finally emerges will have some warts. But he has a winning record pretty much everywhere he has gone. He recruits well. Would you rather have Francchione or Bennett? Francchione or Cavan? Get the picture. And he's enough of a jerk that he might force the administration to make changes before he takes the job.

Maybe we should get him AND Barnett to co-coach. Can you imagine the recruiting juggernaut fomed by combining Barnett with a $2 hooker?
