Would any of his Aggie Staff come here, or would it be a new and different staff?
To Stallion's point, if his staff were to follow, that makes the transition and recruiting contact situation all the better.

The new coach will probably have complete say over his staff, so if he wanted them and they didn't have offers of their own, there's a good chance they will follow him, here or elsewhere.

If Dennis does come to SMU...and he makes a salary over $1 Million...can we at least start calling him Denny Fran-chise? I must admit, the hire is growing on me...but still think we should parachute him in during the Celebration of Lights fellas...

I just checked cbssportsline and the reporter Dennis Dodd had to backpeddle on the buyout being a done deal. Now it says they are close.
Obvioulsy, that information not as ironclad as the reporer first had.

Logically, it might make sense and be a fit.
Emotionally, anything Aggie-tainted leaves a real bad taste in my mouth.

He rode the pat sullivan recruited LT to Alabama, saw the writing on the wall, and moseyed on over to A$M. Might be a good hire, but if he wins don't get too comfortable with him.

Just had two aggies call me in 15 minutes asking if it was true that this was a done deal.
Speaking of history repeating. Fran took over TCU in 1998 replacing Pat Sullivan. Who was the DC of that TCU team who was also let go? Phil Bennett.

Geez, are y'all that excited about Fran? Talk about sloppy seconds (and thirds, and fourths). That on top of fresh taint.

Sloppy Seconds from A&M? I got news for you, it is not 1982. We play in Conference USA and have not had a winning season in over 25 years? Eric Dickerson is not walking through that door, Craig James is not walking through that door!

Thanks for the news. Oh, and I was specifically talking about TCU and aTm.

Darth still has two requirements for head coach...
1. NO AGGIES (or people who coached there)
2. NO PIGGIES....

Didn't we have a winning season in Cavans first year?

re: Talk about sloppy seconds (and thirds, and fourths)
but who isn't? bowden was fired/quit under pressure barnett was fired/resigned under pressure bob davie was fired rick neuheisel was fired (doherty was fired at NC)
smu is not in a position to hire someone that is a current coach at a top program. bob stoops is not interested!
so it's pretty much either gamble on a coordinator or an unproven or hire a former big school success w/baggage
i say go with a guy that has proven he can win

6-6....lets call Cavan back then.
I'd take sloppy seconds from a coach who turned TCU from 1-10 to 10-1 in four seasons. What a bunch of junior high school girls. There is a coach who turned around a nonexistent program at New Mexico, brought TCU into the national spotlight, has an overall record of 180-90 (or something like that), has recruited Texas for 20 some years, but we should pass on him because he coached at TCU and A&M? [deleted]. That is like Alabama fans saying they should not have hired Saban cause he coached at LSU. Take the best guy for the job, period
