Was watching...the BYU Colo State game last night on Espn2. Craig James was calling the game with some other joker. Anyway James said the only way BYU was gonna win this game was in a shoot out. Then they seg wayed in to the 1980 SMU-BYU Holiday Bowl highlights. James was commenting on how SMU thought they had the game wrapped up and was putting 3rd and 4th stringers in. Anyway it just made me more bitter about SMU football because now we have 3rd and 4th stringers starting for SMU thanks to those guys from the 80's. It seemed like those 80's teams were cocky like the Miami teams of the late 80's and early 90's. Is that a safe assumption to make? Old timers?
Re: Was watching...Confident- not outrageously cocky and flamboyant like Miami. I don't remember any of those SMU guys having trouble with the law either. BTW- Segued.
Re: Was watching...Oldpony,
Thanks for the spelling correction. I hadn't used segued in a while. I was wondering how segued was spelled.
Re: Was watching...this reminds me of the great Tweetie Hunt the inspirational leader of the resurgence of the SMU defense in those days. You could hear Tweetie talking smack from the sidelines constantly-you need someone with a little swagger in their step and confidence when you are trying to turn a program around.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Was watching...That other joker was Gary Bender. Bender did play by play for many a big games in the 80s, including some SMU games on CBS if I'm not mistaken. I always thought he was pretty good. He did the 1983 NCAA championship game between Houston and NC State. He was kind of the Jim Nance before Nance came along.
Re: Was watching...I thought that was Curt Gowdy.
