Man Peruna get a grip. Everyone of those BCS Coaches you listed got fired for poor performance. That's my point-but I still wouldn't mind them except Coker who would be a true disaster.And in most of my posts I've called it "our mythical list" because we don't know. I slipped up once but had used the "mythical" adjective numerous times. I have asked and nobody has responded with a single BCS coach who has ever willingly taken a non-BCS job without being essententially pressured out of the BCS job. Name one if I'm wrong.

Actually, George O'Leary and Mike Price were not fired for poor performance. They were fired solely for character issues.

My point was that their terminations/resignations were not performance related.

I was not suggesting anything other than Dirk should not be considered. I have stated that SMU has way more assets to this job than most think. Maybe because I don't live in Dallas and may have a wider view. We have heard of SMU in PHX and everyone else in this country has heard of SMU. We get coverage about SMU. We heard about the JW thing in local papers, we see CJ every weekend. We here of the attempts to resurrect the program. You are very well known around the country. A co-worker stated flatly they SHOULD hire Jimmy Johnson. I know that is crazy, but most know of SMU's problems. Most also think, the vast majority think, SMU got a raw deal from the NCAA. I know SMU has $. Your Alumni have millions, billions. So when I see "who is going to pay for this" it makes me wince. I don't mean to bring up politics, but you will no doubt get W.s Library for what it's worth, or not worth, $500,000,000.00. So we talk about paying a coach around 1.5 $million. That is not worth it to some. But SMU's biggest asset is it's history. Any coach that brings this program back will have a big thank you from the USA and go down as a coaching legend. Your worst sin may be your greatest victory. So if I could live in a somewhat real world re: SMU, my picks would be.
1. Steve Mariucci
2. Terry Bowden
3. Mike Shula
4. Ty Willingham
5. Gary Barnett if he can clear up the Colo. thing.
6. Dennis Green

No to Fran, (a fraud), no to Dirk (Way over his head), Applwhite if we can't get the others. OK.

It's not just one thing with Barnett. I could care less about an affair. Who cares who sleeps with whom on a consensual basis. The word RAPE does have impact. Barnetts choice of words were at best dumb. At worst, uncaring, exploitative, dumb, ignorant, and condoning rape is not a good message. OK. If someone raped a person close to you, would you ask the same question? Then the other stuff. Maybe Orsini is checking out his past. Someone from from SMU will have to talk to her. I would be more concerned with what a coach does than what he says. Gary Barnett had a slip of the tongue, which can happen to anyone. Terry Bowden deliberately carried out a relationship which takes more thought to carry out.

I am not condoning either of the two mishaps.

A slip of the togue may tell more than a rehearsed press confrence. It may show integrity and ethics. Yes I have said stupid things. But I am not trying to fill the job at SMU, Southern Methodist University. I am not requesting my employer pay me 1-2 million $ per yr. IF Barnett can get this thing taken care of, I think he will be hired. It's going to be hard for Orsini or even say an ASU to even consider him if ASU were looking for a HC. If he turns out to be non concerned he will not be hired..........

It does not necessarily mean sexual baggage. Who wouldn't like Mariucci? Will not happen, I know that. DONE. Barnett had other stuff going on. Look, if Colo. could not take it, how can SMU take it. ASU shaved points in basket ball, slap on the wrist. I doubt ASU would consider him. How many bookies made $ on that. If he can clear himself I think he would be a great hire. HE HAS TO CLEAR HIMSELF.
